Brief FUN Report

I primarily came to the show to view auction items so pardon the brief Report:

Due to work complications I flew into Orlando Friday morning vs. Thursday and missed lot viewing on some of the premier items I was interested in. I decided to hold off on bidding for this reason and it seems some of the items may have went a bit cheap.

I viewed some of the more “budget” lots I was interested in and was glad I did. A common date $20 in 55 OGH Gold CAC was going for 64 money. In hand I graded it a 58-62, although it had nice
color. These may have been items I would typically throw a bid on because they were relatively inexpensive without lot viewing. Glad I spared myself from that.

On the bourse:

I’ve never been to Summer FUN. It was smaller than the Baltimore show. It was somewhat busy but I’m guess from the small size this was a bit of an illusion. I didn’t find anything or real interest except a couple nice proof gold pieces from an “investment” type dealer. They wanted 2-3 grades over what the holders said and would not budge. Stating they had that much into them...sure....

A lot of major dealers were set up there to buy, not there, or had micro versions of their typical tables/inventory. Stacks and PCGS had single table set ups. They blended in with everyone else and were difficult to even locate.

Bullion:

I typically try to pick up bullion at shows as a last resort. Due to the high spot and minimal
Selection I held off. There seemed to be a lot of people trying to sell common Morgan’s or junk silver that were inheritance type items. Dealers didn’t seem that interest or were giving very low offers. One dealer shouted: “Spot is X, but no one is paying that!!” My logic says that dealers are hesitant to pay near spot with the recent rise. I can’t attest to their sell prices as I didn’t see anything of interest but I might swing in today just to find out.

UPDATE (Saturday): Bullion premiums are about average if not slightly depressed. Although no advertised spot sales like I saw at Baltimore and Winter FUN even though spot was much lower then. Also, significant youth presence today as there are a lot of booths for the next generation of collectors.

I spent the rest of the day relaxing and decided to go see Steve-O at the improv at pointe Orlando. It was a good show if you are into that.

I’ll be flying out tonight. Not very productive from
The buying side, more so from the not buying side.
