What doesn’t belong?

Cruising around Thailand. You find some interesting collections in temples. What doesn’t belong in this one? (Hope images are clear enough to zoom in...)

In a motley assemblage such as that, it all 'belongs'.....Everything from minerals to bills....and lots of other 'stuff'...Cheers, RickO

Yes, a 1994 Roosevelt and a 1970 Jefferson. Everything else is “Thai”. Our common pocket change was seen as special enough to put in a display case! I thought that was interesting.

Anything with a picture is forbidden in Thailand temple so I see a few things to start.

You might have to explain that one. My spouse is Thai. I’ve been here a dozen times and never heard anything like that. Technically this was a “museum” within a temple complex in Phrae.

Those were the “donated” items to the temple from visitors is my guess. Nice hodgepodge of visitors!

Thought it might be a gotcha question. My family has mixed religious backgrounds too. Buddhist so that was my first response. With your clarity I will agree with the others and say various US denominations of circulation coins. Enjoy your trip. Keep pictures coming.

My daughter just got back from three weeks in Thailand as required for her teaching degree by San Diego State University.

She had an awesome trip and loved Thailand.

That sounds like a story that someone who wanted to visit Thailand would make up. :o

No, a foreign trip is required to get a teaching creational at SDSU. She did have her choice of countries and chose Thailand. Funny thing is that Canada was an option, but that trip was more expensive :o

Another choice was Costa Rica which sounded better to me until a close friend of mine who has been to both places said that CR was a beautiful rain forest but recommended Thailand for its rich culture.

She made a very wise choice.

Those pearls don't belong there. The real Śarīra which looks similar can only be found after cremated. According to Buddhism, it only happens when one has been chosen by Buddha.

Anyhow, very few people know about Śarīra and how it really looks like. But It is sometime found with some digging during a funeral after burning a corpse to ashes .

And what Kkathyl said was partially correct. Pictures are forbidden in many temples especially when Thailand is also well known for dark magic, voodoo and curses. :#

I can’t tell if you’re joking or confusing Thailand with Haiti. There is no “dark magic, voodoo and curses” here, let alone being “well known” for it. And I have taken pictures inside literally hundreds of temples in dozens of cities. The only two I have ever seen forbidding pictures are inside the Emerald Buddha temple at the Grand Palace (for obnoxious tourist reasons more than anything) and on this trip, inside the White Temple in Chiang Rai, because it was done by a famous artist and I think he’s protecting his “copyright“. So I don’t know where this junk comes from, but it’s just not true. Thai people go inside famous temples, pray, then take pictures. It’s perfectly fine nearly everywhere.
