The 4Th of July can be costly...

I know the Holiday is a tradition and we like to celebrate by purchasing some expensive fireworks. Esp. if we buy in great quantities. Sure, it is a thrill to set them off ourselves in front of our families. Now don't take this wrong. I love my country and the Holiday and what it stands for. In saying that, think of the coin or coins one could have chosen to purchase instead of literally letting your hard earn money go up in smoke. Just my 2 cents from the heart. My brother told me he just spent $1000 in fireworks! $1000! WOW, I'm thinking of so many PCGS graded coins right now.
Even a $1000 in Bullion. Oh well, to each his own. Be safe with your investments as well. ;)

If you must choose between buying fireworks or coins, you probably should buy neither. Happy Independence Day!

Fireworks spending has fallen considerably around here, but so has spending on old coins.

Many municipalities hereabouts simply cannot find sponsors for their fireworks shows.

I reject your premise. Setting off fireworks around here brings joy to many and it’s a family tradition. It’s also a chance to see the world through the eyes of a kid again for a few minutes. One more coin - well, that’s something I might enjoy, but it sure won’t make any memories for the ones I love.

You said it Brother. Pure and simple that's what it's all about....the kids.

Hear, hear! Just had my little one’s first foray into home fireworks and will be the first of many considering how pumped up she was by the small stuff. :)

Watch a professional show AND buy the coins. Best of both worlds.

Take a look at the grey sheet. Many coins have detonated in price without leaving the holder.

    Enjoy life a little.

I have two great spots to watch the city fw. This year either the trees grew twice their last year heights or the city bought cheap short launching fw. While we sat there waiting for the fw to start there were some fw going off. My daughter commented, those are likely coming from people's backyards. After another 10- 15 minutes I commented to my daughter, wouldn't it be weird if those were the cities fw? Same parking spot for 25 years and only a few were well above the trees. When what turned out to be the grand finale had ended, only one car honked. It was very disappointing. The city will get a letter from me.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

I watch the local fireworks from my back deck....I do not buy them anymore. I guess I am getting old...well, older. :D And that is a good thing...Looking down at grass is better than looking up at grass roots.... :D They do not sell the good stuff here anymore...Cherry bombs and ashcans.... They were a lot of fun....My dogs do not like fireworks, so we keep them sheltered during the celebrations. Cheers, RickO

I found that buying coins with money I “saved” when 10 years ago doctor said no more liquor and no more tobacco produced that good feeling without giving up traditions. Scary medical procedures sometimes open eyes 👀. 🙀jzyskowski

I loathe the fact they let the common idiots buy and shoot off fireworks! I actually pray for rain the week of the 4th of July so I don't have to monitor my property for fires from the idiots shooting fireworks onto my land! :s

I spent more for meds to dose up the dogs than Fireworks. Them watched the Macey's Fireworks or the 4K TV with a doped up dog on my lap.

When it comes to saving money, I hear you loud and clear. I collect Joe Louis boxing cards, so every penny counts. This year, My wife wanted fireworks, so we bought some. She didn't like my suggestion of buying a cap pistol from the wal mart toys section, and shooting it off after dark. I asked her, what's the difference, it still makes a popping sound? She wasn't having any of it.

I know the feeling concerning your dog. I too have a pup that freaks out every 4TH. Instead of drugs for your pet, have you ever tried to drown out the FW with a loud T.V. on. Or what I do is blast my stereo with some music. I know that can scare them as well but my dog seems to be better when I do it? He's so used to my music, it seems to even put him asleep!

Well, most of the coins I purchase tend to "blow up" in my face anyway, so I guess I'm doing both ?

Life isn't always all coins. If that's all someone spends their spare cash on, or the baseline to which all extraneous purchases are compared against, life would suck.

I agree, life isn't only about coins. All I'm saying is your money spent on Fireworks would be far better spent on something more practical. Something to show for your hard earned money. ;)

Spent fireworks have no value while spent coins are still worth something.

Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

I didn't buy any fireworks. I still have a bunch left from last year. Instead I went to my local 4th festival and found someone selling silver eagles for $19 a piece. He had some 08's along with a few other years. None of the 08's were the 07 reverse, but I bought one anyway.

Spending money on fireworks for the 4th of July isn't and shouldn't be an exercise in financial practicality
