Assuming that the weight is normal, looks like it was struck through a late stage capped die. Another planchet stuck to the obverse die, which continued to strike coins. The rippled texture, finned rims, and ghostlike obverse details are all hallmarks if this error.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

Are these able to be made by hand?

Hi and welcome. I don’t think there would be a problem making them by hand but genuine errors is what we’re after. Most long timers probably have a little different way of putting it but we’ll leave that to them 🙀jzyskowski

    I agree with this assessment.

It would be a more difficult error to fake or copy and get the right look. As mentioned it has the look of a capped die.

That is a unique find...and it does look like a capped die....Cheers, RickO

Believe it's a capped die as well! Very cool roll find.

wow!! that's something you don't see every day! The first thing I'd do is weigh it and measure the thickness. It's much more difficult to duplicate this sort of an error.

    ...and WELCOME to the forums!!

OK, now the OP can never complain that they never find anything good in rolls! :p

And for the benefit of the OP and others here (me included) - I think the key signs that it is authentic are the fully struck reverse and the full rims on the obverse.

Awesome find! My first thought was that this was a "magicians coin;" but, ghost like impression pointed out by others sorta dispels that possibility. Unless maybe weight is much lighter than norm. I can't wrap my mind around such an oddity circulating around for so long without being captured by a collector...or, someone. Maybe it was, and then released again. Should be more rare than finding a silver coin in circulation for sure. Wow!!!
