Has anyone had "issues" with USPS flat rate box weighing 50 lbs?

Just curious if your properly wrapped shipment arrived intact. Using medium size USPS box (11x8.5x5.5)

That wouldn't exceed their limit of 70lbs. I've had several arrive and shipped in the 50-70 range without issue. The boxes are plenty strong, especially when double boxed.

Shipped a box of GA quarters with no problems. Just make sure there is no wiggle room and the outside is taped well, maybe even using reinforced tape and you should be fine.

PO clerk has a stamp to mark a box as being heavy so that someone picking it up doesn't suddenly drop it.

    Reinforced tape like tommy said.

All I can picture is a clerk beating the box to death after dropping it on their foot!

Done many times and always re-inforce the edges with strapping tape.

Agree. Must be doubled boxed and with re-enforced tape all edges, openings and seams.

Re-enforced does not mean another layer of cheap plastic type tape. Re-enforced tape with fiber/strand tape.

Receive and ship lots of medium flat rate boxes in the 50-70 lb range. Double box, tape and tape again, and you'll be fine.

No issues at all in shipping, just pack it well as others have mentioned.

But when I receive those packages like that, I can tell my local carrier isn't too happy about it. Oh well, under 70 pounds is the rule and to make sure I keep getting all of my mail, he does get tipped well at Christmas!

I've sent 69 pound medium flat rate boxes (2 bags of wheats) without incident. But it takes about half a roll of tape to keep the boxes from splitting open. LOL.

I just remembered. I was on a tour of Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse etc. several years ago and our tour guide was building a rock garden at his home. You could buy rocks from the carving at the Crazy Horse memorial for $1 each. He packed up several large flat rate boxes and shipped them to his home. I think they cost around $7 to ship back then. (What a way to get rid of the blasted out rock instead of paying to get it carted off.)

He was also tiling his bathroom and shower walls with those plastic credit card size hotel keys. He was a interesting tour guide to say the least.

Thanks for the replies. I expected to get shipping horror stories.

Careful packaging is the key to success...this applies to packaging of any size or weight, but particularly when they are very heavy. Cheers, RickO

You might get some of these stickers, too.

I'm going through hell with usps over a large flat rate box. 68 pounds, it looked like it was kicked from NJ to OK.
