American Innovation Dollar Coins

What is up with the new American Innovation Dollar Coins? Is the mint going to release any this year or are they going to postpone/cancel the series. I bought a roll of P & D and 25 proofs to start sets for completion in the future. Are my 25 sets complete or do I have a few years of collecting to look forward to. I personally think the innovation coin series is exactly what we need now. The states NPs native American and presidential series are nice and show a lot of US history, but not much in the science & engineering department. I think this series could help renew a few people's interest in the art of sciences by reminding us of what we can accomplish even in rough times.

Other than the whole thing being stupid? And rushed?
The mint needs time to prepare the dies - the designs were reviewed by the public commissions a month or six weeks back. So it will be backloaded in the schedule, probably September - December.

So this years will either be released all within two months or will not be released until next year?

Perhaps if they were actually used in circulation, but "release" of these simply means availability of numismatic and paranumismatic product for people that already know about them. To the public, this will be a case of a tree falling in the forest and nobody hearing it.

While I can understand your interest, realize that most people consider the series just another mint offering to generate collector interest... which it may well do among YN's and a few others. Cheers, RickO
Out of sight ... out of mind.
Any reasonable person or group had 2nd thoughts.
I bet that's it.
Or enthusiasm.
It might be a problem for anyone involved if they are actually going through with it.
My Saint Set
Hi new here so here goes The mint has a web site and anyone can find out that the innovation coins will be available in the fall and wow they are going to be available in a reverse proof. I am your humble friend Hope this helps🙀jzyskowski

Here are links to the design candidates reviewed by the CCAC and CFA in April, for the Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Georgia issues.
The Committees' preferred designs are DE-R-5 (both), PA-R-11 (both) , NJ-R-2 (CCAC), NJ-R-7 (CFA, with reduced filigree) or NJ-R-9 (CFA), and GA-R-2 (both, but the CFA objected to the theme)
DE-R-05, a silhouette of Annie Jump Cannon, an astronomer who developed the modern system of star classification
PA-R-11, a microscope and the structure of the polio virus, on the theme of the polio vaccine
NJ-R-02, an Edison bulb with rays of skyscrapers
NJ-R-07, an Edison bulb with filigree
NJ-R-09, a film projector
GA-R-02, a hand planting seeds, commemorating the Trustees' Garden, an early experimental garden in Savannah
My favorite of the recommended designs are the Pennsylvania reverse and NJ-R-07 with the filigree. Not many of the design candidates wowed me, but with the volume and wide range of subjects a few of them are bound to look decent.
I like the PA design, too.
The Georgia design is -- how to put it kindly -- inept.
The series is supposed to be about innovation and should, itself, be innovative. So far, the first trite issue seems to be followed by more of the same. These folks are being treated like illustrators --- not artists.
"Let the artists go ! Let them show their creativity ! "
Having looked it up, the Trustee's Garden is more innovative than you might think - they breed and crossed important crops so they would grow in the colony.

That’s an amazing question Picasso or realist? Do you want an illustration of the event or an artistic representation of it🙀? Jzyskowski

They’ll be pushed out in the last calendar quarter.
Instead of having almost two years of sales, they’ll only have a bit over a year. Similar to the December 2018 release of the first (Introductory) AI. Just received a couple boxes of Ps & Ds and it is interesting to note the production dates of Dec 2018 and January 2019. The bags are sold out.
Good, bad, indifferent, who knows? Still a small demand for 2018 PF70 AIs.
I bought a roll of P & D and 25 proofs to start sets for completion in the future. Are my 25 sets complete ?
Not unless you add the Reverse Proofs with those.
The first release coin does not have a reverse proof version.

Dang you guys are a tough group. Sorry about the Picasso question sorry about trying to enter your chat world. Enjoy 🙀

The first may be arriving soon (relatively speaking), the Mint just published the price for the reverse proof coin. (We're approaching 3rd quarter, with no release dates in sight...)
$9.95.

And anyone else notice that the Pd RP coin has fallen off the schedule into the TBD's?
Welcome to the CU forums @Jzyskowski1.
Don’t mind us forumites we sometimes loose track of ourselves.
Alot of discussion on the AI occurred in this thread. Now the waiting occurs as each State tries to figure out what to do.

Thanks Hemi. This old can has been kicked down many a dusty road. I believe I’ll stick around for a few new kicks 🙀jzyskowski

Welcome to the forum @Jzyskowski1
I just wish they would do a straightforward series. P-D-S. None of this “enhanced reverse uncirculated proof with W mintmark” halfway into the program. I preferred to collect series like this in Dansco albums and it makes it a pain
I know what you mean.
https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/mysetregistry/showcase/6602
There's a note on the Dansco Album Store's site that states that Dansco will be making an additional page for the unanticipated business strike coins as soon as they know what to make, which should be in 2021, I imagine. I don't know if the binder is big enough to accommodate what they'll need, though.

Being new here but not to the hobby do you mean a circulating coin p d s but maybe with a limited mintage or what would be the draw There are things available from the mint but I’m missing what your describing classification?🙀jzyskowski

All of the AI$ are going to be NIFC (Not Intended For Circulation). They will be circulation quality (and proofs, reverse proofs, Hawaiian Pizza coins, etc.) manufactured in small quantities to meet the letter of the law and for collectors.
Just like Liberia, Niue, etc.

I didn't know NJ had skyscrapers! Figure it's just another thing they want to steal from NY (i.e. Statue of Liberty)........ Seriously, though, I think the DE design is flat & boring at best. Definitely a series I won't be wasting my time/effort/interest on collecting, so long as they don't circulate.
So they are announcing the price of last year's (2018) reverse proof Innov $1 that will be released this year(2019)?
Where, what, huh?
The 2018 PF AI is still being sold.
Are they making a 2018 RPF AI? Don’t think the Mint can produce 2018 coins in 2019. Or did I misunderstand.
The 2019 Mint schedule has gone wild with PFs and RPFs; and the usual bags/rolls of unc.
I got this one. Just checked mint website2018 proof AI coin available. 2018 P & D rolls available AI. No reverse proof don’t believe there ever was or will be for 2018 Don’t know about production date. Hope this helps 🙀jzyskowski
🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶
Yes, I see the 2018 AI schedule. PF and rolls are still available but the 100-coin bags are sold out.
Dang did it again sorry. Ah thought it interesting that the 2018 will be the only year without a reverse proof. Didn’t mean to sound crappy. Going to my room til tomorrow 🙀jzyskowski
🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶
Probably because the Mint was stuck with striking the coins so late in the year and didn’t have time.
Might be the same for this year. Designs haven’t been decided for the four State AIs, yet.
It will be interesting.
You did not misunderstand....
...using the link posted above in the comment by BRJ about the 2018 reverse proof. Info released last week by the Mint.....

Going blind and forgetful I am! Thanks for the refresher @BigA.
What warehouse have these been stored in since last year.
Someone must have looked at the quarterly storage inventory and realized... Oops what are we going to do with all these RPF ‘18 AIs? Why didn’t we start the sale of these along with the PF AIs? Oh, because we didn’t do the FR notice to the public.
Or it’s a plan to have less than six months of sales, make that five months, we are already halfway through Jun.
This entire AI thing is getting really really wild! 2018 AI design issues before production, late production and release and now a RPF; and then the probable late designs and releases of the ‘19s.
And why is the pricing $3 more for the RPF over the PF?
Enough from me. I’ll stick with posting weekly numbers. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1009945/2018-american-innovation-1-coin-intro-coin-18ga-18gra-18gre-18gba-18gbe
Happy Fathers Day Just came out of my room discovered someone decided to drop a reverse proof boom on this whole AI mess. Hemi you’re lucky at least you can post weekly I can’t get that right. Oh well back to my room 🙀jzyskowski
