Would appreciate and scarcity / value advice on the imaged coin. I can find no trace of another chopped GB crown of this era!

Very interesting Mark. I can't recall seeing a chopmarked George IV crown either.

Could it be an upside-down Roman numeral V?

I think Roman is correct.

I don't think it's a chop mark. Someone just stamped it for some reason.
Totally agree. Much ado about very little.
I would have thought a Greek letter before Chinese, but even that is doubtful.
Agree with the above. Punches with generic designs on types that are seldom found with genuine chops must be assumed to have been applied domestically.
Excellent deduction Watson. The die bandit has struck again!

+2. I think that's what it is.
Neat, a chopmark thread not started by me!
For this type of coin, we don’t really know where the mark is from so we have to guess. It’s possible the mark was applied in China, but it doesn’t resemble a Chinese character or symbol seen alongside more familiar marks of Chinese origin, so I personally wouldn’t add it to my Chinese chopmark collection. That would seem like wishful thinking.
I’ve never seen this type with what I consider a legitimate Chinese chopmark, but hope to find one someday.
Thanks all, much appreciated
