Buy the bag, not the coins

An empty canvas bag from the New Orleans Mint was auctioned off by Heritage the other day, and it sold for strong money. Very cool piece of history, but I have to wonder what the old mint employees would think if they could see what the future would bring?

Congrats to the consigner who not only got rid of his Old Bag but did well.

Original US Mint bags have long been popular conversation pieces and additions to educational displays. Ordinary bank and FRB bags and not of much interest.

Most US gold bags sent to Europe were destroyed so that gold flecks could be recovered.
