June 2019 Long Beach show report, with bourse pics

Fun trip!
I flew down to Long Beach from Seattle early Thursday morning (6am), and arrived at the show around 10:30. I’ve only attended this specific show three or four times, but it seemed quite busy. Great to see! I had to make multiple passes through the bourse floor, just to get a good look at each table.
Nice to see and chat with multiple dealers and board members, Rick, Charmy, Fred, etc.
Picked up three coins over the course of the first day, to add to my collection. Nothing earth shattering.
I survived a night in a very low-budget motel four blocks from the Convention Center, and then came back the next morning and wandered around until about 2pm, which is when I needed to head back to airport. Didn’t buy anything on Day 2, but it was still a fun, relaxing day. As I expected, things were much slower the second day.
My general observations:
Tons of gold everywhere. Bags of raw Saints and Liberties. Lots of 90% silver too, going for 11.5 x face. Crazy PM action.
Morgans, Morgans everywhere.
The PCGS Booth seemed very busy. Long line of submitters every time I walked by. Great to see!
Tom Reynolds had a very impressive table. While focused on copper, he also had some fantastic type coins as well.
Didn’t see much in the way of VF/XF Barber material, but I did see some fantastic Mint State and Proof examples. One dealer had an awesome case with numerous Barber MS/PF 67+ coins, mainly quarters and halves. Spectacular toning as well. Holy cow. Didn’t ask about prices, as I didn’t bring 25K with me.
Sadly, lots of empty (unsold) tables. I’m guessing maybe 5-10% were vacant? Kind of a bummer. I’m wondering if Long Beach will soon go to two shows per year.
Most of the dealers I spoke with were happy about Thursday’s traffic. Friday…well, not so much. Thinned out a lot.
HEAVY security presence. You were videotaped as you walked into the show. All of the exits were surrounded by guys with firepower strapped to their sides. Security folks were also wandering the floor as well. They looked like they meant business.
Overall, a great show for me, as decent Seattle shows have pretty much dried up. Had a great time focusing on nothing but numismatics for two straight days. Thanks again for all who took the time to chat with me! Hope to make this show next year...had a blast.
Dave

Bourse pics. You may recognize a few friendly faces here. I have no idea why I didn't get a pic of Charmy hard at work.
I passed on this!
Interesting silver certificate. Wouldn't mind owning this.
ANACS guy looked pretty lonely!
The Tyrant Exhibition was stunning!
Survived this motel, and even found a brewery nearby!
This gal showed up Day 2, selling a ton of stuff. Would have liked to have seen what she had.
My show pickups. I'm a total sucker for lowball gold:
Lunch, then it's back to the Emerald City

Nice report. That platter is awesome. Are the coins real? They sure look to be and man that's a chunk a change if they are!
Thanks for the report. It was almost as if I was there...
I love the 1850-O
Great report & pics, thanks for sharing.
Should have told her you were a coin collector. That's always a winning first impression
Glad you had a fun show.
Thanks for your great report! The gold tray was in the Amon Carter auction by Stack's in 1984. I had not seen or heard of it since then. Do you know how much they were asking?
Holy cow look at those 1795-1804 Gold Eagles!
Funny,my wife has that exact same red wagon and.........hey...........wait a minute! Great report and thanks for all the pics-I saw several familiar faces.
@golden - The gold tray was in the Amon Carter auction by Stack's in 1984. I had not seen or heard of it since then. Do you know how much they were asking?
No, I didn't see a price, and didn't ask, but it was ultra cool.
Dave

btw, those blue m&m's don't work.
Nice review and pics, thanks for sharing. I think my favorite image is the woman that unfortunately didnt sit next to you. What a view!

Who had all those wonderfully toned silver eagles
Rainbow Stars

@TONEDDOLLARS - Sorry, I don't quite recall who had the amazingly toned silver Eagles. Let me ponder this a bit, and it may come to me. If not, maybe another board member who attended will remember?
Dave
Excellent report, thanks for posting.
I also spent some quality time chatting with the guys from Great Collections. Really nice folks. The were displaying a run of coins that will be coming to auction very soon. Incredible material, including, if I remember correctly, a super original 1916 SLQ in PCGS MS65 FH. Anyway, they were very friendly. Love what those guys are up to.
Dave
Your report was just a TON of fun. It really brightens my day whenever someone posts such great pictures of a show. Thanks so much.
Very nice report, @Dave99B
Thank you for sharing.
Couple of things:
I like that 1850-O you picked up...very nice looking for a G4.
Also, do you remember who was selling those toned SAEs for such moon money? Wow! They were like that awhile ago but had come back to earth...wondering if they have gone back up or that is some super wishful thinking on someone's part......
I really like the variety of coin pics you took and posted
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Great report! I have to make the trip soon!!
Thanks for the report, and all the pics! Nice pickups, too.
Fantastic report Dave! I love the pics of whole cases on the bourse....I had fun looking at each, zooming in here and there at individual coins.
But I gotta say whoever priced that case of PCI toned ASE’s may have had a few too many tequila shots.
Sweet G4 2.5, too.
Nice report!
@Bochiman - I don’t recall who had the toned SAEs, but I’ll look through some other pics I have, but didn’t post. I may have a shot that shows the dealer’s name.
Dave
Nice looking 1850-O G4 Gold. Was there much lowball gold available?
Lafayette Grading Set
I like the 1850-O $2.5... great.
@pocketpiececommems - I honestly didn’t see any other lowball gold anywhere, and I was looking pretty hard. Didn’t see anything VG or less, except for this tired, lonely 1850-O $2.50. The dealer said he just got it back from our hosts, and knew it wouldn’t last long. He was right.
Dave
great report! Cant wait for septembers show, Thanks!
great report! Love all the bourse case photos.
Very nice report.
Looks like you had a really good time !
That was a pleasant read and display of your show endeavor. Was just what I needed this am as I giver myself to go off to work. Nice pick up too. Thanks for the report Dave.

Nice report. Loved all the coin pics as I haven't been to a show in a couple of years.
@Dave99B ... Great report and pictures... It appears there were a lot of women at the show...That is interesting. Your comment about a lot of gold action is also intriguing...must be due to the current upswing in melt...Thanks for an excellent show report. Cheers, RickO
Fabulous set of pictures. That motel, though... details grade.

@LRCTom - That motel, though... details grade
My Lord, you have no idea how correct you are. When I opened the door, the movie 'Dallas Buyers Club' immediately came to mind.
PCGS Grade: 'FAIR Details, Net POOR 1 - Graffiti, Bent, Corrosion, but Not Cleaned'
the blue m&m's looked good, fwiw
Great report on the LB show!
Well if the motel near a good club like Anaheim Theatre or Spearmint Rhino....I would stay there too. When I go to Cali coins the secondary attraction. What I save on hotel pays for rental car upgrade, etc.
Great show report. Some really impressive inventories. How bout all those $500 notes. If high money people spending wb a good show.
Great report... almost like I was there
I spent about an hour looking at the coins in the Tyrant collection display... unbelievable quality. Don't often get to see roman gold that is proof like and virtually perfect. Can't wait until next year when they start showing of the U.S. coins that are in the collection!

My days of spending more on a single beer than the hotel room are over.
I am not in any way a gold guy, but I liked that one.
Great report! I love that lowball gold piece.

Thank you for the report. I was in LB for the Feb show but couldn't make it to this one. Your report was excellent and the photos were the best. Thank you again.
Oh, and the motel. Doesn't look so bad. I've stayed in worse.
Liked your report but,
Big sign by the doors entering the bourse read "No Photography allowed"
A dealer in one of your photos was dropping his head and blinding his face with his hand. Some folks do not want to be photographed at a show.
I took a photo of just a vendors setup last Long Beach show and a nearby dealer was not happy, thought they were going to report me!
Glad you had fun!

Nice pictorial report! Makes me wanna go to a coin show, now!! And, Ohhhh, all those toned Morgans!!! Heavenly!!!
Rocking my "shiny-object-syndrome"!!!
