In a challenging market...have dealers and collectors maintained their gentle demeanor?

...or has friction increased?
*It is always particularly important to be nice to to the customer service personal, even if they can't immediately respond with the information that we request!

Reaction of the coin guys is dwarfed by the truculence of the bonsai enthusiasts.

The friendly people are still friendly - the old curmudgeons are still old curmudgeons. Nothing's changed in the 50-plus years I've been going to shows.

I pride myself on my excellent customer service.
Most customers are easy, some require some hand-holding, and one, in particular, I will bend over backward for.
The good ones share the pizza!
It’s just business as usual. With the metals trading in a narrow range and the bids relatively stagnant or downward its just smash mouth buy low / sell high move it fast ball as usual. That’s just fine with me as I cut my teeth on the post 1989 market. One refreshing thing was seeing a young vest pocket trader cruising the bourse making deals with his briefcase and green sheet.
At a recent show we stood around kidding each other does anyone actually make money doing this. One guy did a really hilarious imitation of one of the pod cast people. I live for the free donuts, coffee, pizza on day1. Got Cash? Do you have an offer that’s close? I Just try make them a deal / move material.
I do run into some who specialize in material always had interest - one guy specializes in Irish coins another came up to my table “I noticed you have some really nice Canadian material” and offered me an 1861 NGC piece. “At that time Canada was an ally of the South and had a large force massed on the federal northern border” the fellow said. Another fellow bought a fairly lucrative deal a few PMG graded world notes from me as I have been increasing the graded paper money inventory with good buys find here and there (low pop single / double digit pops). At last few shows probably had more graded PM (not to mention stacks of nice raw) than anybody.
The owners at my LCS have maintained their demeanor over the past 30 years. I wouldn't call it gentle though.
It's my opinion that society overall has become less caring and gentle as a result of the internet where the keyboard has empowered bad/rude behavior.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
@coinbuf....I totally agree with that...social media is most un-sociable....The keyboard commando's would never say such things face to face... they would get hit. And their false courage allows them to display their ignorance. As far as the coin market, I have seen no changes in demeanor of dealers or collectors. Cheers, RickO
I don't think the market is especially challenging. 1990 and 2009 were tough coin markets.
As for civility, the "coin code" largely remains what it was 30 years ago. Pass or play. Own your mistakes. Caveat emptor. Trust is everything.
