Long Beach (show report)

This is probably my 4th or 5th time going to the LB coin expo. This year I arrived about 30 mins after the show opened and there seemed to be a decent amount of collectors throughout the floor. I’m not sure how much buying and selling was actually happening but it’s a good sign there was a lot of people there. I went straight for the CRO table and ended up consigning a few pieces and saw a sweet 1871 $1 that I’m sure won’t last long. I am already in love with mine and have the date covered or else I would have popped on it.

As soon as I was done talking to John I set out doing quick scan through all of the aisles . I stopped by Dalton gold and silver and spoke to Grant who is always generous with his time and has a wide variety of cool old gold coins. Stopped by and spoke to Phill from eye appealing coins for awhile. I saw and met numerous other small dealers during the day and saw all types of cool coins.

I normally focus on SLDs and pass by most everything else. But old gold has been calling me lately. I guess I’m just getting tired of looking for the final SLDs I need and never seeing them available. Today was a little different. There were some key dates I needed available but not with the look I wanted and not the grades I’m looking for... but it was fun nonetheless to see them on the floor today.

I brought my old man with me (he knows nothing about coins) and we had a good time just hanging out and looking around at all the cool stuff. I taught him some of the basics and he was good company throughout the day. He enjoyed seeing a 500 oz bar of silver and was amazed at all the gold bullion for sale. We broke for lunch around 1pm and ate at Islands. Food was good and we both enjoyed sitting down and resting for a bit . When we got back to the show it was still pretty well attended.

I forgot to mention earlier that the whole reason I came today was not to buy or sell coins... but to have my SLD set professionally photographed by Todd . I made my way back over to his booth to see how it was going and he was about half way through. So I went around and looked for anything I may have missed during my previous aisle walks. I ended up finding a couple of really nice type 1 gold $20 Libs OGH with CAC stickers and was very impressed. I snapped some photos and sent them to a friend that asked me to keep an eye out for some nice type 1s. Who knows maybe a deal may be coming down the road? I walked the floor a couple more times and my old man needed to rest his dogs. So we sat down for a bit and just relaxed. When I finally made my way back over to see Todd from Blue CC photography I was happy to say he had completed everything and we made arrangements for future delivery of the images. I will share some of them here once I receive them. I have not seen all the images but I can say that Todd is an awesome guy and treats his customers the way they should be.

It was an awesome day and I really enjoyed myself. The ride home sucked and took more than 2 hours but was well worth it. I’m going to attempt to go back on Saturday to hang out with Brian Cushing for a bit at the LSCC table . Not sure if the wife will dig me going again. But I am definitely gonna try.
