NEWP Type II Double Eagle

Have been refining my collecting path by moving away from 20th century gold and into earlier gold. In many cases, the populations are a fraction of what exists in 20th century gold, and the costs are not particularly outrageous compared to the pops. Yes, some dates are pricy but many are not.
The plan is fewer and better coins. This one is a transition coin, with a cost that was very reasonable compared to the spot price of gold. Plan is to move slowly into a few better pieces over time.
1875-S. Population for this date at PCGS is 3,750 total coins, with 756 in this grade.
Compare this to a 1924 saint with a population of 310,000+ (graded @ PCGS) or a 1927 with 160,000+
Also like the die crack running through the WE in TWENTY and through ED STAT in UNITED STATES.
Thanks for looking!

Nice appearance. Cost was good vs. Spot price because these are not worth much premium over melt. Superb 62's are a good way to add numismatic premium on more common T II's.
Nice looking lightly circulated Type 2 double eagle. I like the new collecting strategy that you described. Each new purchase should be fun.
Nice gold coin.... My favorite coin metal.... Cheers, RickO
Good plan with the switch-over. I'm doing the same thing.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Good find! Very nice transitioning I would say
Thanks all. FYI, it’s PCGS CAC AU58

That's a beauty! My 12pc type set is complete and I want to expand to the type 1 and 2 Double Eagles eventually...
