I trust this bargain was worthy of a nice donation to Goodwill?
I go to Goodwill book store looking for T.S. Eliot first editions. So far no luck in that area but I have found some great books at true bargain prices.
Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
I wish we had a Goodwill store in this town.... I do browse the antique shop, but those items are usually overpriced...by a factor of two or three times the value... Cheers, RickO
Ha! It gets even BETTER, right after finding this, I went to McDonald’s for lunch, ordered a 10pc Nuggets and there were 11 nuggets in the box! This is my day!
You are very fortunate to live in an area of stupid people. I should say that most people pay no attention to the price of silver or gold and you are the winner for that. But, in my neck of the woods there is at least one worker in every store that grabs the stuff before it goes on the shelf. I NEVER find sterling.

If I were you, I’d stop by there frequently for deals like that!! 👍
I used to stop at a neighborhood Brick & Mortar Coin Shop years ago on my way home from work, and would always find interesting and enticing coins to purchase.
That was back when Gold was $250-$300/Oz and you could buy BU $20 Libs & Saints for $280-$300!! 😁👍

There are a few Goodwills around here that never yield anything, but this particular store is pretty decent!
My brother and wife were recently giving a lot of stuff to Goodwill, brought a couple dozen loads to them, including valuable stuff. I told him anything of value needed to be valued and sold not given away. Many thrift shops are ill equipped to value things of real value.

Have you ever had a piece of KFC chicken with a butt on it? Where do they go? The Colonel sends all of the butts to McDonalds for nuggets. This was a play on words from Buddy Hackett.
Nice dish by the way! Continued success!

Wow - don't see that to often at the Goodwills I visit. That would put a smile on my face! All my local stores have employees who spend their days looking up stuff like that to sell online. Occasionally things do slip thru but they seem to know enough to check for sterling around here. Years ago I scored a sterling flatware set for a couple bucks which I sold at the price spike. I seem to find rare books and pricey vinyl records in my stores, I guess it is too much work to look those up. The clothing also seems to just get tossed onto the racks. I also look for the old concert t-shirts.
The Goodwills in this area Western North Carolina all vary. Some yield sterling occasionally, and some locations I haven't found a piece there, yet.. So I'm sure some have people in the back buying it or having family members come and get it.
Oh well, it's fun to hunt for this stuff regardless and once in a while I get a little treat...
That's awesome!! Coming across a score like that always gets you back into hunting for more.
I've only had one big sterling silver find at a thrift shop once. It was back in 2012 and consisted of 7 goblets and 2 plates. The total weight in grams was 578 or 17.19 troy ounces. I had paid just less than $34.00 for everything.
The candy dish in the middle turned out to not be sterling.

I love shopping the local Goodwill stores for books, I also have two teenage boys who are growing through clothes so fast that I end up usually grab them a few T-shirts. Most of the stuff they don't destroy gets donated right back, I'm basically using them as a rental agency.

I just read that Goodwill stores are going "upscale" by partnering with one of those on-line services to sell their more valuable items, so finds like these are going to become much rarer system-wide in the end.

Nice! I occasionally find items at goodwill or "savers" stores, but the number of finds has been dwindling lately.

FWIW, both Goodwill and the Sally doubled and trebled their thrift shop prices around here about the start of 2018. Much less opportunity there now.
And both places usually have some knowledgeable pickers masquerading as staff members.
Did you see me out front with the "Help Me" sign standing with a can?
I figure it's the best way to get one of those newfangled "W" Quarters.

The real thing is that someone "GAVE" that silver bowl to Goodwill!
Now all you need to do is hit the local Coinstar machine reject slot and find it full of .900 fine silver!
Your streak continues. Nice find!

I've been going for years and NEVER found Sterling. Perhaps your good luck will rub off on the forum. Congratulations.
Will you keep it or sell for melt?
Nice find! How much does it weigh?
