1839-o quarter eagle purchased today - PCGSAU58 CAC

LanLordLanLord Posts: 11,732 ✭✭✭✭✭

Added this to my certified type set today.
I had purchased the gold spouse coins pretty much from day 2 (I missed Martha Washington for some reason, ended up buying it later).
They never really seemed like a good fit in my collection so I decided to jettison the jetsam and flotsam for something that would look nice in my type set.

I sorta thought I was going to feel a little guilt or regret, but I really don't.

I did, however, just guarentee that the price of gold and the value of the spouse coins should double almost immediately.
Not looking back.

My favorite US gold : Classic $2.5 and $5.00. Also, what I love about the gold commems is that you are getting US mint gold at darn near melt - your wallet thanks you.

Very Nice coin, I just ordered my first classic $2.5 about 30 minutes ago. Will post pics after it arrives...

To all others, be careful, perhaps there is a trend starting.

Wonderful coin, @LanLord. Splendid choice. Hard to go wrong with Witter's coins.

I sold most of my quarter eagles a while back. I did receive a '49-D in the mail today but sadly it was a customer's, not mine.

Very nice and only slightly rubbed. Looks MS! I like the value of the Hags, but you did good on this swap. <3

Nice looking coin. Congrats! and I like the trade.

Die marriages for Classic Gold are not that well known. A bit more detail on your coin... There are two die marriages for >the 1839-O Classic Gold quarter eagle. I call them the High and Wide, and the Low and Close. Yours is the High and Wide.

You and my 80's-long Long Beach table-mate Mr. Dannreuther have likely already prayed from the same pew with Mr, Bowers in Mintmark and Logotype Heaven. Recall of so many minor and minute variances always amazes me.

While it's an exclusive club, the OP, reading this, can only
be filled with awe at this munificent validation of his reflected brilliance, :#
That phrase is translated from jumbled garbled fragments of the demotic Greek "Tales of the Medusa" into an failed Esperanto iambic pentameter and then to sardonic recapitulation of Bob Marley's warning to not believe your mirror when you're smoking Kool-Aid and you see the Face of Jah.
    Loosely yet rather tortuously translated.

Smoking something else might lead one to believe one's self British and call it "quite charming".
