PCGS Mods what is the purpose of Banned if their post still shows up.
Why do they still get their spam in this case the wallet spam to remain.
They win as they got their message to remain on site. Why not delete it all togeher and first post as well?

I reported that one, too. Glad to see that swift action was taken.
I assume there are different levels of effort involved in banning a user, closing a thread, deleting a thread, etc. Maybe there are various access or approval levels involved.
Anyway, the thread in question will drop down the list into oblivion soon enough, and once that happens no one will ever see it again since no one will ever do a search for that topic.
Depends who’s got the duty and what level admin they have.
I would assume they give us enough credit to ignore a banned member.
Just remember -- they have to lifeguard the PCGS swimming pool, too.

I would like to revisit the case for a disagree button
Perhaps they should give us a "banned" button. Things would quiet right down around here.

I was being watched by the mods for a small time period. Because I got sick of seeing trolls. So I guess I just have to deal with it?
Cant have a disagree button.... it hurts people's feelings lol
HAPPY COLLECTING
Spam threads such as the one referenced should be deleted. All other usually serve some benefit to the forum even if it is only not what to post.
"A car is a tool that takes you from one place to another. Everything beyond that is a payment for other people's perception of you."
I disagree, but I think you can handle the truth.
My feelings aren't hurt. I sort of miss the disagree button.
While you people are here bellyaching some neat stuff is showing up on that other thread: a chimichanga, a deep water fish with long fins that he can stand on, and some kind of firey space thing.
THAT is the value of spam threads.
It's not that just that people's feelings were hurt. People were in competition to get the most disagrees.
The result would be a very dull forum with just a handfull of posters. Wait, that's a great idea.
I DISAGREE. The problem with the Disagree function was that anyone could use it yet not give a reason. That was a big flaw. The trouble really started when three little trolls found a way to give me disagrees on anything I posted. In a very short time, I had 2K disagrees. Then it became a joke. After a while, I didn't mind racking up that dubious record as anyone who didn't know the history behind the total would consider me to be a troublemaker. I tend to be one. Toward the end, one or two others started to rack up 1K disagrees. Perhaps there was a contest between them.
I remain personally annoyed when people use the Agree function without giving a reason.
Smitten with DBLCs.
...the same type of people who should be forced to try and colonize Mars...maybe they'll even make it easy for us and arrive there before the oxygen does
Banned user posts (spam or otherwise) often serve the purpose of demonstrating what not to post....unless it was excessively egregious, then it gets deleted. Cheers, RickO
There is no need. In this case the post you agree with says it all. I like it when someone agrees and then expands the original answer further. Oops! looks like you made a good point!
I miss my memory and this morning I even looked behind the fridge for it.

Isn't agreeing with someone pretty self explanatory? Or were you joking without using the wink emoji.
I took it as a joke but he has a point.
It was 93.4% a joke. I steadfastly refuse to use emojis!

Try a NON-emojis: : X
No emojis!?

After a recent headache regarding banned members having their posting history deleted, we do not clear the posting history. Posts are only deleted when absolutely warranted. @ricko said it best.

Way to go @ricko. Best answer badge.
The other thing is that some banned members were fine for many years until a particular thread. Those years of earlier posts still contribute value and are not controversial.
I missed the Drama

We kissed in a field of white...
And stars fell on Alabama
Last night"

Why isn't "disagree" also self-explanatory? [In some cases.]

I sure do miss it. Times were simpler back then.
It's also useful for fraudsters and preserving evidence.
Because, any TROLL can leave one and no one gets to read an alternative opinion. I've changed my opinion when "educated" by a disagreement over many subjects.
reminds me of this:
They should give us a "go suck a lemon" button.
There can be lots of drama without going over the line. Wherever that might be.
And I think the ones drawn are pretty good. They allow discomfort zones. Psychological and social boundaries are, by textbook if not political definition, semi-permeable.
I have no idea what the blowup was on "Disagree Doomsday". Missed it. No idea how many bozos pushed buttons, how many threads were affected. I formed the impression that less than five members were banned but thousands of buttons were pushed. I don't know if some members were stalked across threads, ruining discourse on completely different topics.
I'm semi-clueless, but have a sense I'm close enough.
If not, please consider what follows as useful in dismissing my arguments or optimally, synthesizing something freshly useful.
I take it as a given that if the PCGS IT staff can take make a button disappear, they can make it reappear, If you've ever coded, you might suspect they could have as many response buttons as they might choose. Likewise cumulative totals on each profile.
My suggestion
flag - agree - like - dislike - disagree - lol
I consider it intellectually dishonest (as well as bad manners) to disagree without giving a reason. I might disagree with 60% of a post and give it a dislike or agree 90% and give it a like. These are not metrics. I have no need myself, though I resonate, Just another participation trophy to me. I get a badge every year for not dying!
Likely a few of us are more deeply burnin' churnin' urns of burnin' funk than others.
I try to be as discriminating in my targets as little Drew Barrymore and her flames.
I would wrinkle my nose in momentary embarrassment and smile at the same time if someone awarded me a "Troll of the Week" badge, so I speak with the authority of someone whose former sig-line has been "The Road of Excess leads to the Palace of Wisdom".
Some will remember the historical moment when tamper-proof plastic caps and seals became a multi-billion dollar industry. Previously unrequired by law, they are now because of one incident, and one incident alone, where a bottle of IIRC Tylenol was maliciously "dosed". Public health measure. Likewise banning, which keeps the social health of our Forum from being contaminated by "dangerous vectors of pathology".
We can all take a pledge and sing Kumbaya, but bad eggs and brain-farts? Who ya gonna call?
@heatherboyd (and whoever is on duty midnight shift and National Holidays) giveth and taketh away. It's not done gratuitously.
Does the community deserve another chance at a disagree button?
Should we inaugurate a "dislike" button?
Since I tend to find extremes are useful in setting up sensible counter-arguments, I'll characterize the elimination of the disagree button for all of us as similar to the treatment of the Buffalo Soldiers in the "Brownsville Raid". Some unidentifiable members were accused of "rioting" and the group was told that, were those guilty not given up, the whole group would be punished. Unit solidarity in the face of a semi-officially authorized lynch mob resulted in the entire group of 167 being dishonorably discharged. My favorite President's ugliest moment.
@Paradisefound likes Drama.
I'm not saying they were wrong to do what they did, but, upon reflection, did PCGS throw out the baby with the bath water with a technical solution that, while necessary to calm things down, might, in retrospect, had unintended consequences?????
The only non-rhetorical question here is about the additional response gradation of dislike.
Just like there are gradations of anger like pissed-off, outraged and homicidal, all emotional reactions..
Inevitably, feelings get hurt. Even denial is semi-permeable.
I have a definition of "adult" which pisses-off many of @insider2's "snowflakes". And many here, because of some of my sympathies, would call me a "snowflake". As would many here who've seen me in full throttle against specious "facts" consider me to be abrasive.
I expect and can tolerate bad, even evil. I've been professionally trained. You do not want to know how many police officers were treated at the domestic violence agency I worked at. In two years, only two of them half-got out of their chairs to come at me during Anger Management. Both stopped at the sound of my "You don't want to do that". So I hardly pissed my pants at all.
This Forum is a vacation.
Party responsibly, like an adult. Observe your reactions before you create a response.
As Thos. Merton used to say "Even a community of saints cannot live together without anguish".
About that dislike button...
And? So what? Who cares if some anonymous person online disagrees with you or not? I never understood all of the fuss.
If you look closely between the "Quote" and "Agree" buttons you will see a dot. That is where the "Disagree" button used to be - it is still there behind the scenes. It has been reduced to that dot as a placeholder.
And BTW, I don't miss the Disagree button one bit. There have been many compelling points in various posts above, but the bottom line is that some people used it maliciously as a weapon. Even some of it's biggest proponents fell into the troll's trap and got themselves banned.
I haven't read through this thread yet, so forgive me for repeating something, but many banned users have worthwhile content.
@jmlanzaf asked: "Why isn't "disagree" also self-explanatory? [In some cases.]"
Because, any TROLL can leave one and no one gets to read an alternative opinion.
@jmlanzaf replied: "And? So what? Who cares if some anonymous person online disagrees with you or not? I never understood all of the fuss."
I expected my comment did not need further explanation. Unfortunately...
Most of the time, that anonymous person MAY NOT BE A TROLL! Furthermore, many here are anonymous. If I get lucky and post something that happens to be certifiably true to any knowledgeable numismatist and some uninformed clown disagrees w/o giving a reason, they have added nothing to the forum an may have clouded the issue for beginners.
PS Disagrees, stopped bothering me long ago. I turned them into a sign that I hit a nerve and I
really enjoy agitating folks.
The Bottom line is, it's there house and they make the rules. I still wish they would add a "go suck a lemon" button.
You do not fall into a troll's trap. You aren't mindful enough to notice you've decided to jump. As in "Look before you leap!"
Some will recognize that a few members here are on my hit list. I find their statements either consistently or singularly egregious enough that I respond with consistent opposition to certain of their points or positions.
Accordingly, I have been trolled.
I will not be led off the cliff by one post. But when I read what the estimable @RogerB might characterize as "poppycock", especially of the self-serving variety, my psyche becomes inflamed into polysyllabic exposition of sometimes unbearably interminable length (at least to me).
None of us are bullet-proof. If three fools suicided, the herd is better for it. Famous last words?
Reductio ad absurdum. Was it "some people used it as a weapon" or "three people took something previously viewed for a very long time as 'benign' and for a very short time perverted its use with malicious intent."?
"If you piss me off and I stab you to death with a snowman's nose, it doesn't mean that carrots are inherently dangerous."

You're missing the point. Some disagrees are obvious.
If you say that a coin is overpriced and I click disagree, isn't it obvious that I think it is correctly priced?
