MS AU or FX

There is a lot to be said for "cheap n' cheerfuls".

This 1972 F.A.O. issue Tanzanian 5-shilingi piece cost me around 5-10 cents- maybe a quaryer, tops- since it was in a big bulk lot I bought.

Though it catalogs for a mere $2.50 In MS63, it's a keeper. In fact, I liked it enough to spend the 40 bucks or so to send it off to PCGS. It is there now. I should have a grade and TrueView pretty soon.

The universal reasons to like this coin:

• It's pretty big.
• It has a cool decagonal (10-sided) shape.
• The design is appealing and quintessentially African.
• It's a pretty nice example for the type.

My personal reasons to like this coin:

• Nostalgia. We lived in Tanzania for a year when I was a child.
• The coin is dated 1972, the year my family lived there.
• The first allowance I ever received was one of these coins per week.
• If my memories are correct, I could buy a model airplane kit with one of these.

That's a lot of joy in a coin that's barely worth three bucks.

Picked these up today. Ive always been fond of the Empress bust.

Get those checked for authenticity. Maybe it's just the lighting in the photo, but they look questionable to me.

Over the last two years I have been enjoying making the occasional couple of buys from world junk bins. I have a small growing, eclectic collection that I find myself being proud of considering how modest my budget is for such purchases. There is not much of an avenue to " show them off" but they do fit in this thread quite well.
