1921 Peace Dollars - (VAM-1H) - Glossy Semi-Prooflike Reflective Fields

Here are (2) 1921 Peace Dollars (VAM-1H) that possess Glossy Luster, Strong Strike and Light Cameo Contrast between Devices and Fields, both of which I’ve previously posted on this Forum.

These are 2 of my collection favorites...👍😁

(Note: I consider the following Descriptive Luster Reflectivity Categories Nomenclature Progressively Transitioning with increasing Reflectivity from Frosty to Ultra-DMPL for Silver Dollars and other coins.)

Matte (Proof) —> Frosty —> Satiny —> Glossy —> Semi-Prooflike (SPL) —> Prooflike (PL) —> Deep Mirror Prooflike (DMPL) —> Ultra Deep Mirror Prooflike (UDM) —> Deeply Mirrored (Proof)

    Nice! I have a few VAM-1H but none that I'd call glossy. Do you have photos under different lighting?

    A June 2025 Update…

    It appears that that PCGS Prefers to recognize the 1921 Peace Dollar VAM-1H by the easily recognizable Die Striation Diagnostics as “VAM-1H Polishing Lines”, rather than continuing to attribute them as “Satin Proof Dies” strikes.

    I have posted several forum threads on this topic searchable under ”VAM-1H” and my forum user name STUART for those interested in seeing some examples, as well as searching the very informative _VAM World_ reference web site.

    IMO these are well worth cherry-picking because of their Superior Strike and Higher Glossy Mint Luster. — Happy Hunting! 😃

    @RobertScotLover - I’ll let you be the judge of that, based on the following PCGS Population Report

    Yes it is fairly common, I've found probably 4 or 5 of them.

    I find the true Satin Proofs range from a dull Matte (early die stage Proof 1H) to a satiny flashy luster (late die state Proof 1H). Both of the below are graded Proofs.

    Thanks for showing this. But this only accounts for what is submitted because the submitter is motivated by the current info out there that these can bring a premium. But most collectors do not adhere to VAM designation or care and few can even decipher how to distinguish the variety since it isn't at all that obvious. Can you imagine how many are out there in the win that haven't been counted. Aren't you just blindly accepting and going along with the tpg's limited submissions using it as proof of its possible scarcity. I have2 of examples and I don't recognize it as anything important because exactly of what I am saying. To me its a nothing burger, I know its just an opinion but so is everything else. If a variety is truly rare and accounted for because it is obvious and sought after it deserves to be called rare and deserves a premium, but not this one imo

    @FlyingAl - Thanks for posting those 2 gorgeous 1921 VAM-1H Peace Dollars! 😃

    I especially like Miss Liberty’s Hair detail, overall hammered strike and the glossy/satiny mint luster on the lower photoed coin. 😎

    I’m curious whether you acquired them as certified Satin Proofs, or if you cherry picked them as mint state coins?

    This may be the most well-struck 1921 VAM-1H Peace Dollar in my collection. 😎

    It exhibits a very pleasing Glossy to Satiny Mint Luster. 😃
