copy coin of the 1916 doubled die obverse nickel on the way to my mailbox right now....

I bought a so-called copy of the 1916 doubled die obverse buffalo nickel which is coming to me from across the pond as they say and should be in my mailbox before noon. It is supposed to have the word COPY on it which would make it a legit copy but my experience with these “coins” is that when the coin arrives the word copy is not there, thus making it a counterfeit instead!
Will let all know later today whether or not the word is there as displayed in the picture.

    Looks like they forgot to double the feathers, the most obvious of places (especially on worn examples where the date is gone.)

    I have one as well. No "copy" on mine but that shouldn't be needed on this anything but deceptive job. As DCW says-they forgot to double several design elements-ribbon ties, chin, neck.

    Nope. Does not matter how awful the fake - and yes, this one is awful - it is a counterfeit.

    Wow.... I am curious, why are people buying these 'copies'... stamped or not....Cheers, RickO

    This gets more interesting. The postman delivered the little packet from China to the wrong mailbox. So now in the morning I will go to my post office to let them know about this. Another great job by the Post Awful as some call them.
    According to the tracking number the packet was supposedly delivered to my mailbox today but it was not there.
    Anyone have suggestions as to how I should handle this?

    @BUFFNIXX

    Might still be sitting in the bin. Or, as you stated, in someone else’s PO Box.

    Do you have the weight and/or dimensions of the package? And the return address?

    It might help them to search.

    Notify your local B&M as well as pawn shops to be on the lookout. Whoever accidentally got it may think they won the lottery if they go online to find out what it is. Especially of the word “COPY” is missing.

    Well guess what! I forgot that I bought the coin from my daughters account instead of my own and she just gave it to me.
    It does NOT have the word copy on the reverse like it is supposed to, so it is a counterfeit! and not a copy. A lot of this was happening in the early part of this century on eBay, when you got the copy coin there was no word copy on most of them.
    So these are starting to sneak in again, Still a nice way to plug that hole in your set I guess.

    Yes-and a very expensive hole at that!

    A number of years ago there was a huge number of different key and semi-key dates coming out of china that were much more deceptive (at first glance, at least) than the coin being discussed here.
