Dirty money...

BackroadJunkieBackroadJunkie Posts: 3,745 ✭✭✭✭✭

(Didn't see this posted, but...)

No, really. An organization LendEDU.com did a study on how dirty things are. Then they did it for credit cards, currency and coins....

lendedu.com:Dirty Money: New Research Reveals the Filthiness of Our Cash, Cards, & Coins

They really didn't take enough samples, nor from different places around the country (it's mostly NYC based), but it was a fun read.

But I'm still gonna go and wipe down my credit cards now....

I recall reading somewhere that it is high in, uh, toilet stuff.

Nearly every bill has some level of cocaine on it. 1,000 different species of bacteria are living on your skin right now, There are mites living in your eyelashes, and ten times as many microorganisms living in your body as there are human cells. We can think of all this stuff as creepy or fascinating I guess.

Remember when a visit to the bathroom also meant time to catchup with reading (on paper). Now the reading is on an electronic device.

Washing your hands is a must but does any wash/wipe their devices they were just using while doing the above? :o

Just another facet of the human experience....Germs are everywhere....Today is no different from yesterday and tomorrow will have the same germs again... Carry on and collect coins... ;) Cheers, RickO

    Err...can someone notify the author.

His pictorial on the coin cleanliness is opposite from what his data points are showing near the end of his study.

(the dimes and quarters info are reversed)

They tested only 12 coins but 41 cards. That seems a little skewed. I believe coins should be a little higher on the scale and if they tested the same number of each, it might have been a truer reading.

I found it interesting that a Penn station subway pole was one of the “cleaner” as in less germs detected of the things they tested. I would have guessed those to be filthy.

At least you are safe with silver coins — silver is antibacterial!
