My latest addition :)

Hey everyone, I'm new to the 3 cent silvers, I have some beat ones,, but I just picked up this 1861 3 cent silver, almost looks P/L to me, also I think the date may be doubled..
I love the leaves and arrows on the back of these years

@KollectorKing Please excuse me if I am misinterpreting, but I believe what is being suggested is the possibility that the coin may be a contemporary counterfeit.

I don’t think that was being suggested or that such is the case.

Sorry then. I thought with pointing out 1861, and I remember that these exist..... I certainly was not trying to cause problems :)

Edited to add: @KollectorKing Please accept my apology, I should not have inferred that.

And @SilverEagle420 Please accept my apology as well for getting your thread off track.

I'm not upset man, I appreciate all feedback,, I've compared to many ms 65-67s and the dates so far have all been a match except for a few oddballs, I jus wanted opinions in general lol

Looks pretty nice, some tone, and the top of the 1s do look like they have a slight shift.

Looks like a very nice coin but I have to wonder why it hasn't been slabbed yet. I like the very historic 1861 year which is First Year of the Civil War. If you get it slabbed please let us know how it's graded.

Possibly cleaned at one time, but it looks like a decent coin overall.

The images don’t allow for a good look at the coin’s surfaces. However, from what I can see, I think you will be sorely disappointed if you’re thinking in the MS65-67 range for a grade. I base that on the apparent marks at the area of the date - the portion of the coin that is easiest to assess somewhat clearly. My guess is that the (possibly) over-lit areas will display similar flaws when viewed in-hand.

Examination of the pictures indicates to me, that the tarnish may be hiding some surface scratches on both sides. I would put the grade around MS64....It is a nice coin... Cheers, RickO

I think you've received some great assessments.
I assume you don't have it in your hands yet.
If that's the case I look forward to your opinion when you get it.
Agree with liking the rev design.
    Congrats.

The seller told me he has no interest in slabbing,, he had many beautifully toned coins and told me all of them he has had for over 3 decades and doenst have kids to pass em to so he gives me first dibs on his albums,, he has a gorgeous 1859 seated liberty quarter I've been eyeballing as well

Ok so it came in today and omg It is so sweet!! Old man's pics dont do it justice and neither do mine,, it has a super reflective surface and an almost cameo frost on the star with the Amber's on the rim down to blues and green towards the center

This one I used flash, and I see there are some scratches they're either old or like most longacre coins its filing Mark's

I can't tell anything from those pictures. Are those marks actually in the field?

@SilverEagle420 I am happy that you love how it looks in hand.

I'd like to make a suggestion regarding your pictures. Try using a plain white background and see if you notice a difference.

  • SilverEagle420SilverEagle420 Posts: 255 ✭✭✭

Those Mark's only show under a flash lemme take a magnifier pic, I'm sorry this thing is hard to get pics of

  • SilverEagle420SilverEagle420 Posts: 255 ✭✭✭

Ok so here 2 diff angles, I'm pretty sure that's jus broken toning cause when you look across the coin its flat and pretty scuff free, I've also noticed the "scratches" stop at the star and dont continue over the devices on any part of the coin,,

I overexposed a pic to show the scratches that are on it,, but with all stopping right at the devices edge, it makes me thing they are file markings

Omg these look horrible but its shows the scratches that are there, vs the broken toning
