1847-O $2.50 Monster Die break - any premium

One of the largest die breaks I've seen on a gold coin, couldn't find a similar one. Just a neat oddity or something more? Thanks for any help

buying Rhode Island Nationals please email, PM or call 401-295-3000

Woah, that’s a really large crack. I would definitely pay a good (but not significant) premium.

Always buying nice toned coins! Searching for a low grade 1873 Arrows DDO Dime and 1842-O Small Date Quarter.

Much better than average die crack, especially for gold.

That die is a few dozen coins or so away from being a retained cud die break.

And yes, although most common gold coin die cracks carry no premium,
I would say your coin does have a premium for the significant and long
    die crack.

Lots of cracks on the 47 o QEs. That one is significant. Would likely bring a premium especially in a higher grade. I find it interesting though.

Interesting but it might be difficult to find the buyer who will actually pay a "significant" premium to buy it. When I think of "red hot" collecting areas $2.50 gold coins don't come to mind.

    All glory is fleeting.

Liberty quarter eagles are actually quite popular today among gold collectors. They aren’t as popular as double eagles but there’s a pretty strong demand for them especially the higher grade ones.

I think if the OP’s coin was a higher grade he could expect a premium.

Collectors of gold coins by date and mintmark tend to be a very wealthy group. Unless a date/mm is truly rare they are going to want it in high grade. The coin in question is probably not in a high enough grade to generate interest among the serious date/mm collectors of this series.

    All glory is fleeting.

You should be able to get a premium for it... I've been able to sell my nice die cracks for a small premuim.

I have never seen a die crack that advanced on a U.S. gold coin.

Wow.... that is a very prominent die crack for a gold coin.... There are certainly collectors that would like to have that coin in their collection.... Cheers, RickO

    Nice d-crack @RINATIONALS!

Wonder how many the die made before it was changed.
