The basic unit appears to be a stack of 5 coins. Each level has n-squared stacks. There appear to be about 60 levels with some missing. Summing n-squared to 60 we get a funky formula which is on the order of n-cubed / 6. Comes out to about 36,000 stacks or 180,000 pennies - $1,800 more or less. There about 140 pennies in a pound so have about 1300 pounds. I'm assuming they did not cheat and make the thing hollow, or put in a void for somebody's tomb, etc. Also we can't see the back, which could be made out of $20 libs or something else.

Ya know, you could not pay me $1,800 to build such a thing.....not enough patience........

Two sided pyramid? Notice the the base supporting the pyramid does not seem to extend around the two sides of the pyramid that are not visible. I'd like to see an overhead picture. Preferably taken from a miniature helicopter made out of wooden nickels.

More evidence of their inherent value. Our legislators should be proud.

I wonder if they pulled the wheats and foreigns out. There was also probably a good chance of an Indian and proof in that.

Look closely at the base, using shiny cents and brown cents, he has made a diamond pattern.
    Could this be photoshop trickery?
It doesn't appear to be symmetrical all the way around...but the video at the beginning makes it seem quite symmetrical.

    I don't see a "penny" in this...however I see lots of "cents".

Besides the time and effort to build it, think about the time to stop photo for the video and the amount of photos that would be required.

Does the world record have financial incentive?

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

I cannot understand why anyone would do this....I guess if someone has an empty life, bereft of challenge or interests, then perhaps boredom drives the effort. Not for me... Cheers, RickO

The time lapse shows some elaborate patterns buried inside. Clearly the creator is not worried about wasted effort.
