Hey everyone, so I've had this 1942 D Walker for awhile and I was looking at pcgs coinfacts for this coin and compared the strike quality to the ms 68 stock photos they have and I'm not an expert but after comparing them I think mine has an insanely complete strike, the first 2 pics will be of mine and the last 2 will be of a beautifully toned ms 68 on pcgs

Nice strike, sadly on yours there is a decent hit just below the hand going coming across the body that would hold the grade back.

Yea that was my concern as well, I'm debating on whether it would go high enough to justify grading it, what grade would u slap on it

I havent found one with a hand or full stars or that much detail on even the roughness of the eagles feet and the branch

    Very nice Walker @SilverEagle420, but...

I agree with @Jinx86 that the hit is a factor. It not a scratch but a big dent right in the middle of the coin/Lady Liberty.

Thanks! That hit was my concern as well,, but I have $80 into this coin, do you think it pull higher than a 64 with that strike and light toning?

If you paid $80, I think you’re in the coin at a high cost. Even an MS65 (which I wouldn’t expect) is worth roughly, just $100 or slightly more, so I wouldn’t spend extra money for grading and postage.

Ok thank you guys for your opinions :)

The MS68 pictured does not have a full strike, (not even a particularly strong one). It has everything else going for it though. Full strikes have finger separation visible. This is what a full strike looks like:

Some Walkers just don't come struck like this, though. Yours is not worth sending in because that center hit is going to limit the grade to 63 or maybe 64. It does have a nice strike, though.

I also have this '41 without craters in it. I think I'm into this one for $36

The strike on yours is far superior to that of the PCGS one you posted.

    Nice coin, hit or not.

That coin looks AU, with apparent wear at the central breast of the eagle, Liberty's breasts, mid section and leg, among other areas.

Actually I'm 15 into that '41 but the luster on it is out of control I will likely just sell it raw then

It’s tough to justify submitting most of the late date walkers, with exception to 41-44-S in 65 or better. A lot of the dates are not very expensive even in 66. Due to roll hoarding, there are a lot of nice Gems out there.

Your 42-D looks nice and original but would likely grade 64 so it’s destined to be raw imo.

Since the 41 is in a holder I wont offer any input other than to say Mr. Feld is a pretty smart guy.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

    Agree with clarkbar.
The typical show bourse is loaded with coins like these, raw and slabbed. Even coins in ‘6’ holders are a tough sell unless deeply discounted.

Your 1942-D looks like an attractive coin, but I believe the images submitted for the 1941 aren't helping that coin at all.

I took it out of the case I I do see the very minimal wear, mostly on the eagles breast and leg

I agree. The 42-D maxes out at 65. Huge hit in the middle. Also a hit in the flag and some chatter in the fields.

The '41 looks to have been lightly polished, and is not MS.

That deep dig on the central obverse of the 42d is very distracting to me. I wouldn't grade it higher than 64.

The '42D I would grade at 63.....and agree the '41 is AU.....The designs on the WLH seem to show hits and wear easily....Cheers, RickO

Agreed, unless you have an economy submission of other coins and you throw it in - you would roughly break even money-wise, but if you want it in a PCGS holder for your collection then it might make sense. The 1941 looks dipped - would be a fine coin for a 41-47 Whitman short set album where it might acquire some nice rim toning in a few years.
