Met a lot of nice young coin collectors that raised a question. About sealed gov. Envelopes..
I had no answer for them yesterday while eating Maryland freshly caught backfin crabcakes. Just cautioned them about the possibility of opened/resealed envelopes.
Is there a local dealer or dealers on the net that would have Gov. Sealed envelopes not tampered with that contains coins, Franklin's 1940's to 1963.
I offered there are a few, don't know who they might be, but will ask around. So, again any dealers from Maryland or on the net from this forum know of such dealers? Thanks!!

I suppose that detecting resealed packaging is an area of expertise in itself.
Not to be a Debbie downer but crooks have been resealing packaging since forever. Me thinks one might have to go to a dealer who can provide provenance. Peace Roy

Well, I'm from sc pa. each their own but I never met a softshell I didn't like except a very occasional leather back which I never had a problem replacing.

Honestly, I'm not sure it's a treasure hunt worth pursuing. You'll pay a premium for "sealed" sets and 80% of the time you are paying a premium for "re-sealed" sets.
You might as well look at the coins you are buying and make a determination based on seeing the actual coin.

The resealing (or sealing - since I have heard reports that early sets were not sealed) has been going on for as long as I can remember...just another scam .... You pay your money and take your chances.... Cheers, RickO
