You need to read the newest research on the subject, "1792: Birth of a Nation's Coinage" by Pete Smith, Joel J. Orosz and Leonard Augsburger. The silver was supplied by Jefferson in the form of coinage (probably mostly Spanish Dollars) that he withdrew from the Bank of the United States (He deposited $75 of the $100 he withdrew. He wrote it down in his account book.) Jefferson took delivery of all 1,500 coins and started to distribute them on his summer hiatus from the capital in Philadelphia to Monticello.

I think that we have evidence now that the first Half Dismes were spent were on or about July 12, 1792, somewhere west of Philadelphia, near Baltimore. on the first day of Jefferson's journey back home. His notebook indicated tips in multiples of five cents rather than multiples of the Spanish Real (12.5 cents) as it had previous to this date.
Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

Unless there is updated research to the contrary, I don't believe there has been any evidence of this.
