What to do with 1500 nickels

Posted bank heist yesterday and realized I could get advice on the remaining nickels. The loose ones are all 1938 -42(non-war) and 1946-1949 fine and better.

Spend them. There's no premium on any of those from 1940 on unless they are UNC.

39D and 39S of they are decent might have minor value. The rest have no value over a nickel

The ‘38s are the first Jeffs after the Buffs and have some premium in higher grades.

What you have here is the answer to another question frequently asked: "How did this 40, 50, 60 year old nickel end up in circulation looking uncirculated?"

they are in circulation for a reason, they have no premium above face value.
Save the uncs. Sell on ebay or bst.

Send them to the guy who has 3,000 from an Estate. ?
...or....buy a bunch of CLCT stock then send all 1,500 for authentication, photos and grading.... ?
Most of them sadly have little to no premium I would recommend giving it to a young collector or you could just hold onto it. If you have to spend some I would pick out all the 1950d&p, 1958p, 1938 pds, 1939 pds, 1942d, and a couple other semi keys. I usually keep all pre 1960.
Good luck selling 1969 UNCs to anyone except the guy next door. The postage on a single roll is more than the premium on the roll. Either BST or eBay will not yield a profit on 1965 or later UNCS.

Go through the rolls. You just might find something amazing.

If I was close to you, I would take them off your hands. My rational is this: they are on bedrock value with only upside potential. Eventually the metal nickel will rise and nickels will be melted. That makes these even more rare.
National coin week is coming up April 21 through 27. Spend them all get them in circulation now and maybe some new collector will find them.

You guys are so cynical....
You never know who will buy what on eBay. I am not saying you will make lots of money, but if you are careful and charge enough postage to cover shipping costs but not so much as to scare away buyers, you will find some takers. Best if you can bundle rolls or encourage multiple purchases so you can combine shipping.
I for one am scoping out some 1941 nickels for a counterstamping project. I'll buy them off eBay - I already have one seller coped out. Not too expensive but more than face for sure.
If you want to avoid eBay fees, try the BST. I'd check out such a listing.

Wished I had known, I coin machined probably 5 boxes of 1940s dated nickels a while back. When I do nickel searches I only keep pre-40 and scarce dates and silver - the rest goes back to continue soldiering on, including now 79 year old 1940 nickels.

I will be counterstamping a lot of WWII era coins in the future for a few different projects. Everyone says they aren't worth anything, so how come I have to pay a premium for them.
They will sell on eBay no problem.
More than face even after shipping/fees.
Or, if you don't want to mess with it, just spend them.
It's up to you.
But them in metal cans. Bury them in the garden for a week. Find them with a metal detector or divining rod. Give them a romantic old-west name. Sell them as lost treasure to the left half of the population bell curve.
Oh, and have PCGS label them as "Backyard Coffee Can Hoard"

Small problem, let your heirs sort that one out, unless you need the money. Move on to the next pile of change, and have fun.
What you have, is a huge accumulation of nickels... little or no numismatic value. Suggest coinstar, your local bank and/or credit union... Cheers, RickO
