My first coin purchase

After researching for a long time and deciding that I want to focus on Early Halves I finally pulled the trigger on one that I liked and decided was at a fair price point, I definitely dont have enough knowledge to buy a Raw example that would be free of cleaning or doctoring so I decided it would have to be in a PCGS holder and have a CAC sticker on it to be safe. I’m not saying that those two things are the best way to go as I have a lot to learn but for Me I thought it was the safest route for my first purchase. I am open and welcome to any positive or negative comments as I’m extremely happy with this coin regardless. I’d also love for any of you to share some of your early halves and dollars, my next purchase will be a Capped Bust, and I have a long term goal of obtaining a Flowing Hair Silver Dollar.

Based on his posts, I think the op is mostly a sports guy
Must be into sports cards. Nice coin, great first coin purchase. Looks like you have been paying attention.
Congratulations on a GREAT first purchase!

Beautiful classic half! Very nice piece of history there.
I do not have anything that old in US coins to share.

Great start and a great looking coin. Here is one I sold last year.

Good for you! I was expecting something a bit more subtle...well, a lot more modern I guess. Love it!
Thanks for the nice comments. Yes I am a Sports guy. I stack PM’s and 90% but have been drawn to the early US coins for a long time and have been wanting to pick one up, i love Vintage material and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to go with this type of coin. I’m going to try my best to be patient and learn as much as possible. I definitely enjoy this forum and have learned a lot from reading everyone’s posts.
I like it, congratulations !!!
There were only 15 states when this coin was new!!!!!! Nice job!
I've always liked the 1795's !
Very nice !
You are braver than I am. I started a serious collection of Capped Busts but afraid to go back further....

Wow. Well done. Beautiful coin and early halves a a riot. My first (real) coin was a train wreck....... the sort a dealer won’t even buy for its bullion content. Tuition. I’m very happy I don’t have a photo.
Love it when the first coin purchased isn't a morgan dollar! congrats

Great first purchase and one of my favorite varieties with the reverse split die. Original and a lot of detail for the grade!
Congratulations! Beautiful and original coin!
Nice to run into you outside the sports forum!
Go Pats!!
Actually I should have mentioned you in my opening post Mark, thank you again for the PM’s and Emails! It really helped steer me in the right direction, I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to help me out 🍻
You to buddy and yes GO PATS!!! 🍻
A beautiful, honest coin, that actually saw service in 18th century America.
Wow
Awesome half

In my limited experience, nice-looking flowing hair halves are surprisingly difficult to find compared to dollars and half-dimes. Yours is definitely a nice one!
They should have a Surgeon Generals waning on slabs: Caution may be addictive.

Not bad for a Pat's fan!
Welcome to the coin world.
Fantastic first purchase @perkdog!
Your a good study in picking that coin as your first piece. I do hope all your future picks are just as great.
Congrats!
Congratulations! You should be very proud, and derive a lot of pleasure from having that in your “custody”. It has a nice home! Also IMO, you made a VERY smart decision to pay a little extra in buying that nice one in a PCGS slab, and reducing the risks compared to buying one raw.

nice coin, congrats on the score
A VERY cool first coin 😎
Looks like you did your homework. Nice coin.
Great choice. I saw that one on ebay and thought about it several times. I still don't have a O-107a, but agree with @Nysoto that it is a cool reverse die break. WDP had a nice Fine of this variety which I should have bought, but that was 3 years ago.

Here's my O-127a

Very nice, and congrats!

I got one of those cool halves in 2018, it is a 108a. I like that big ol die break better than the tiny cud.

Perk is a "fixture" at the Sports Forum. his ID icon might help you realize he's a Patriots fan. given that Teams history I'm sort of shocked he's held himself back to only 18k.
Thanks again everyone! @keets, you know I’m a “Modest” Pats fan 😜 🍻
@perkdog.... Welcome to coin collecting... and that is an amazing first coin.... Congratulations and hope to see more of you over here... Cheers, RickO
Thank You ricko, you are one poster I always remember seeing here for your patent pending “Cheers” when I am thumbing through the threads! Cheers to you sir 🍻
