My first coin purchase

perkdogperkdog Posts: 33,948 ✭✭✭✭✭

After researching for a long time and deciding that I want to focus on Early Halves I finally pulled the trigger on one that I liked and decided was at a fair price point, I definitely dont have enough knowledge to buy a Raw example that would be free of cleaning or doctoring so I decided it would have to be in a PCGS holder and have a CAC sticker on it to be safe. I’m not saying that those two things are the best way to go as I have a lot to learn but for Me I thought it was the safest route for my first purchase. I am open and welcome to any positive or negative comments as I’m extremely happy with this coin regardless. I’d also love for any of you to share some of your early halves and dollars, my next purchase will be a Capped Bust, and I have a long term goal of obtaining a Flowing Hair Silver Dollar.

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Wow. Well done. Beautiful coin and early halves a a riot. My first (real) coin was a train wreck....... the sort a dealer won’t even buy for its bullion content. Tuition. I’m very happy I don’t have a photo. :)

Great first purchase and one of my favorite varieties with the reverse split die. Original and a lot of detail for the grade!

In my limited experience, nice-looking flowing hair halves are surprisingly difficult to find compared to dollars and half-dimes. Yours is definitely a nice one!

Congratulations! You should be very proud, and derive a lot of pleasure from having that in your “custody”. It has a nice home! Also IMO, you made a VERY smart decision to pay a little extra in buying that nice one in a PCGS slab, and reducing the risks compared to buying one raw.

Great choice. I saw that one on ebay and thought about it several times. I still don't have a O-107a, but agree with @Nysoto that it is a cool reverse die break. WDP had a nice Fine of this variety which I should have bought, but that was 3 years ago.
    Here's my O-127a

    Very nice, and congrats!
I got one of those cool halves in 2018, it is a 108a. I like that big ol die break better than the tiny cud.
