Monster toner, here you go (not my coin, but I would love to own it):
Beautiful but that looks exactly like Silver-Sulfide AT. There is a woman that lives close to me that does these. I of course could be wrong but look at these two eBay listing that I bought and then returned. They were absolutely stunning in hand.
Read the last paragraph of the listings for reference and compare the photos to that Ike.
Great question. For me, I know within 1/10 of a second after viewing the coin in hand. A true monster toned coin will cause everyone you share the coin with to reacted immediately. It usually starts with a WOW, followed by a that sure is pretty comment, then the occasional drool, and the best way to verify a monster toned coin "how much is it?"

I think it's in the eye and mind of the beholder, like PQ, high-end, or any other subjective coin term.
I bought this one from a respected dealer in toned Morgans, and he didn't consider it a monster. But it certainly meets Erik's criteria. (And it is the one coin in my whole collection that my husband finds impressive!)
Just ran across this coin and wanted to say it looks great! Love the luster on this one. Congrats!
As noted by several posters above, luster popping underneath the toning. But I'd like to add the toning should be at least 3 different colors or clear variations of a color. Here is the only 1 of mine that I think may qualify. Blue, magenta, orange, yellow and green. Came from a roll from the 70's.

Both of these would qualify in my opinion.

I don't know I would call it a monster, but I like it.
Mirrored surfaces on proof coins makes for a great background for spectacular toning........

Love those colors. I tend to like the ugly monsters. Still have a peace that is.
