Actual collectors that don't have a collection
Hi guy's, I know the majority of the members here do have some sort of coin collection. How many here actually do NOT have a coin collection at the present time. I am one of those lone members. I used to, but recently I sold all! Anyone else? Thanks guy's

I just sold off my collection last year to fund the building of a new house that my wife and I will be starting in 10 days or so.
I've been buying a few things here and there to resell just to keep up on the market. As soon as it's built I'll be going all out on an even better box o 20
I'm guessing, at my largest amount of an actual collection I once possessed, would be estimated at a value of $5000. That was in 2012. My best series in my collection at that time was the complete set of the Buffalo Nickels. All raw, in an album. Approx. an average grade of VG-F. I certainly miss them now. It took me quite sometime to acquire. I even had some varieties in the same album.
One More Thing... To mention a note of importance, I also, at the same time I had my Buffalo collection. I had a series of PCGS graded Morgans. 20 different years, from a grade 64.

I'm blessed, I still have mine !!!
I'm in the camp that a numismatist is not required to own a coin collection.
I believe if I was in your current situation @JoeyCoins , I'd own at least one coin to remind yourself of your hobby.
I picture it being an inexpensive slabbed Morgan and leave it lying around where you'd often see it.
Like on the coffee table or your stand next to the recliner, etc.

Thanks for your advice! Yeah, your right. Eventually, I will pick up some kind of coin(s). Like you said, It will probably be a Morgan.
You suggested a coin for my coffee table. Well, I do have one nestled on my table now, it's my "Dad's Dollar". Which is my Avatar shown.

There are many ways to collect, many areas to assemble inexpensive collections or pull coins straight from pocket change.
I guess you could say you collect "knowledge," but seems like a whole lot of time invested for seemingly no skin in the game.

I no longer have a collection, I just have inventory.
Funny thing is, my "inventory" now is way better than my collection was.
Is it better financially as inventory?
Yes, absolutely as I am a business.
@sparky64: > I'm in the camp that a numismatist is not required to own a coin collection.
I have known many collectors who have sold collections, or most of their collections, and are still very active in the coin collecting hobby. They can collect for fun at much lower financial levels, stay active in clubs, become a dealer, research, write, catalog.
The only ones I have are transient pieces used for research, then put back in the wild. But most of what I do is original research and writing....
I have had a coin collection most of my life... and undoubtedly will have one when I die.... just the way I am. Cheers, RickO
Yeah, even though I don't have an inventory or collection anymore, I still have that fire of the coin hobby. Seeking for a highly sought after variety/error coin than finding it satisfies me dearly. Than later, sell it for a premium profit! Sort of like the yard sale hunters. What one man thinks is trash another finds a treasure. Ex: 1952 Proof Quarter, $6-$12 But when it happens to be the variety "Superbird" Proof Quarter,$$$$$$$$$ This is how the hobby still bites me.
