My article on Louis Werner's capped cents (which he referred to as "Novel Cents") just came out in the April issue of The Numismatist. If any of you are interested in learning the history of these unique pieces, the article begins on page 49:

In case you don't know what a capped cent is, here are photos of some of the ones in my collection.

Thanks for writing and posting the article. It showed the historical context in how events-in-time can and did have an impact on the lives of people; and is evident in how these cents came to be made.

I always liked those encased coins. I vaguely remember meeting Mr. Werner while I was working for Coin World or the ANA, but it was just a brief introduction.

Ricko, I did not find any information on how many Joe Louis capped cents he made but I do know it is the scarcest of all of his designs. If you find one, they often sell for $100 up.

Thanks for doing the research and all the work for the article. It is a very interesting corner of exonumia. I remember you gave us a preview in your Long Beach report of June last year so I was looking forward to it - turned out great! Especially that the ANA museum happened to have the dies.

Here is the one from my collection (I have several Admiral Byrd medals)

The tag says I bought it in 1990!
