Acronyms and slang permeate the culture, especially in specialized fields. Computing (in all it's various forms) may be the worst. (My name is Backroad, and I am probably one of the worst offenders.)
I once got caught up with a bunch of guys who stock grocery isles (in a premier store for the chain), and it was quite a fascinating conversation on facing and rearranging items on shelves due to customer demand.

My mother in law thinks that means Lots Of Love. The first few emails I got from her left me puzzled when she ended them with LOL! and there was literally nothing funny about it. I thought it might be her Norwegian sense of humor until I figured it out. She still thinks whenever someone uses LOL they are spreading love...........I would tell her but I’m 100% certain she would tell me I’m wrong
