Well now, lets see if this stickering service is as successful as CAC

WaterSportWaterSport Posts: 6,873 ✭✭✭✭✭

But I bet it will not get as many threads as CAC does on this forum...Just saying.

Do we know the name(s) running this outfit?

I don't know if I can take any more of this.

Also funny that if you submit, you would hope that your coin gets a "black eye" seal.

Some of the cert numbers on the site bring up nice TrueViews.

I still can't believe they're for real, though. The site went up yesterday, right?

No info on the principal owners or financial resources to back up their guarantee. Sure I will send all my $10,000 coins to them for a $100 sticker on each one.

"The vast majority of coins will not qualify for an Eye Appeal Seal™. Our secret criteria are objective and down to a science."

Or for free, I can rely on my own criteria -- which is all I care about when I buy a coin.

I thought it was a day late for April Fools but if it is a joke, congrats on the serious effort.

If I was to start a new service it would be a red-dot service. This small dot would be placed in the upper, right-hand corner of the green (or gold) CAC sticker if the coin met my stringent (but nebulous) criteria. This would therefore become a verification of the verification of the opinion of the original TPG graders, which, of course, had already been verified by the finalizer.

Well, it this isn't an April 2nd day's joke RED is the last color I would use on an approval sticker...... Where I come from RED means "Defective" and "HOLD" for repair or more evaluation or SCRAP.

    That website hurt my eyes.

Also, I have my Product Manager hat on, and I really don't see what market problem they're trying to solve.

First, they need to use bigger font. Maybe size 72 or something. Second, this list is great. At once entirely general and then extremely specific. I love that someone spent any amount of time putting this together.

    Pre-1934 gold coins
    Pre-1939 nickel coins
    Pre-1959 copper coins

    Major mint errors

PS: we promise not to disagree with your eye appeal appeal.

"Our secret criteria are objective and down to a science." The conceptive of being both secret and objective to a science bothers me a lot. They have a repurchase guaranteee that says "The purchase price will be a top wholesale amount based on prevailing market conditions and solely determined by Eye Appeal Seal™using a fair, standard formula." Seems like if there is a fair standard formula, the formula should be stated.

LOL...wouldn't it be a hoot if this was David Hall's and Bruce Willis's big come back tour.... I bet folks would be breaking necks to be the first in line...LOL

Ok, back to reality - is it phony or real and if real, who is behind it? I can tell you it cost someone some money to make those stickers they put on those slabs on Ebay. And that seems like a lot of effort just for a joke to me. Guess we will all have to stay tuned.

Very interesting! I did not think I would actually receive a reply!

So on April 2, I sent the following email:

Hello, how do I submit coins for your service?

    Thanks,

    Matt

I just received a reply today, April 4:

    Hi Matt,

We truly appreciate your interest in our services.

We do not currently accept submissions from the public. When we eventually do, it will be through reputable authorized dealers, a list of which will be published on our website. Our purchase and quality guarantees will also be honored through them.

If you wish to buy any of our approved coins, please check our website first to verify the slab serial numbers. We do not anticipate approving more than a few hundred (or thousand?) coins in our first year of operation, so all serial numbers will be listed.

We are contractually and morally obligated to buy all approved coins for top wholesale dollar, so naturally we are proceeding with great caution.

    Sincerely,

    Bob Johnson
    Associate
