Thanks for your comment. The obv is what sold me on this coin. I thought the 2 different streaks of rainbow toning were interesting, especially with the blueberry color. I also like the spots that are scattered across the coin. Very psychedelic. Take care.

I wish it could! My best guess is it sat in a 55 double mint set under the right conditions. I notice the majority of double mint set coins from the philadelphia mint end up with bluish toning. Thanks for your comment.

I bought it in a great collections auction last Sunday. I was surprised when I ended up with the winning bid. The auction had 25 people following it.

It has a very unique obv with the two rainbows and various dots. Bluish/purple toning on the obv/rev. Overall, there's just a lot going on and I think that is beautiful.

But that's my personal opinion. I understand there are many different preferences when it comes to collecting coins.

It does look similar to some AT jobs I have seen from a Chicago Doc. But one can rarely know for certain. Obviously throwing the name of the Doc out there would be speculation, libelous, and against forum rules.

I love toned Franklins too. But a Blast white 1955 in 66FBL is exponentially rarer.

Hi RVA, welcome to the Boards!!!

As you might guess by my avatar, I love toned Franklins, and have collected them for decades. Given that you're a new guy here, I'm going back and forth as to what to say, as I wish to compliment and support you on getting in to toned Franklins, but at the same time, part of reading/posting on these Boards is about learning.

I guess the long term collector in me is winning out. Assuming the colors in the image are correct, IMO your Franklin is AT. There are a few indicators. First off, the untoned circular splotches on the obverse are often exhibited by coins that have a liquid applied. The splotches are where air bubbles have surfaced. This is somewhat supported by the kind of liquidy look of the obverse peripheral toning from roughly 11 to 3 o'clock. My best guess is that that area is where the liquid ponded. Second, the blue exhibited on the obverse and reverse is not your common 1955 blue, which tends to be a much darker blue. The blue that is exhibited on both your obverse and reverse is a color that is often seen on a well known coin doctor's productions. The "reddish" color of the upper area of the reverse, roughly from 10 to 2 o'clock is very commonly seen with the blue associated with this doctor's coin products.

Obviously, PCGS has considered this coin to be, at a minimum, MA, so you are protected in that regard. All I'll say is that I use my 30+ years of collecting toned Franklins to decide on which Franklins to buy.

Toned Franklins are a LOT of fun, which at the end of the day is what coin collecting is all about. I hope you continue to collect them and learn more about them. If you have any questions about a Franklin, please feel free to PM me.
