Random CWT

SimpleCollectorSimpleCollector Posts: 536 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just figured I would post a couple of random tokens I picked up over the last two weeks. Very pleased with them when I received them. No real rhyme or reason to why these, except that I liked their look and they offer an affordable diversion from trying to fill the holes in my type collection.

For an observation, I will say that there were some recent nice condition tokens offered, and some that I don’t see often, I put some very competetive bids, and was consistently beaten. One or two people were bidding pretty seriously.

For a question, do serious cwt collectors prefer raw with pedigree or slabbed. I noticed some of these came out of a collection, and perhaps pedigree or knowledge of the source is driving demand. I have slabbed other nice tokens I won, but curious if I should leave them raw.

Anyways, one pic of the obverse and one of the reverse. Enjoy

Very nice group. I especially like the Melville Merchant token. There are quite a few token collectors out there.
Some like to collect raw and others prefer graded. I think the more rarer expensive ones are more desirable graded
    Just as most coins.
When I first started I have quite a few pages of raw fine to unc cwt’s and htt’s. The more I got
into it and spent much more money I preferred having them slabbed even if I bought them raw for
a few reasons......one was to keep them safe while handling

Funny you mention the Melville token. I am primarily a patriotic token collector, but in this auction, despite strong bidding (maybe over bidding), it appeared one bidder was going after everything. After getting shut out on all of the ones that I wanted, I saw this and liked it. My first foray into merchant tokens.
