    I see a lot of collectors and dealers try to cross NGC coins to PCGS. Does it go the other way? I do not know as I do not frequent their forums.

    Tough crowd tonight @HJP717 don't let em get you down. Most everyone here oscillates being gruff to the new guys, then starting threads lamenting that there's no one new entering the hobby.

    Well, I ain't no Rocket Scientist BUT,,,,,, since everyone that is reading this is on the PCGS US Coin Forum I would say the odds favor PCGS. ;)

    I am still new here but I own 99.9% PCGS holders and one ANACS holder. Just recently sold two NGC coins. So PCGS is my choice by far.

    In order of my preference and the value(s) I see in each grading service

    1st place - PCGS - accurate grading and best looking slabs
    2nd place - NGC - accurate grading and ok looking slabs
    3rd place - all others - their plastic keeps finger prints off the coin

    1st place - PCGS - accurate grading and best looking slabs
    1st place - NGC - accurate grading and ok looking slabs

    I put them in a tie with the exception of I do prefer the PCGS slabs, the neutral grey is better for highlighting the coin that the bright white of NGC plastic and PCGS plastic is easier to polish off the marks on. Otherwise, the differences in their grading are small for the most part.

    So we get back to "Buy the coin and not the holder"......... ;)

    Both pcgs and ngc do a pretty good job. Both of their latest holders look very nice.
    I also like the second tier holders anacs, ice, and segs.

    Coinfacts prices show auction results from both PCGS and NGC.
    It's a good way to see which way you want to go.

    And I will add: rude, self-righteous old-timers helped kill the stamp hobby. The old-timers were not only rude to newbies, they told them they were "collecting wrong" and took all the fun out of it for younger people.

    Didn't that there fella J.A. found and develop both? J.A. helped to create PCGS and then, for whatever reason, left to create NGC. Was that his way of improving on the system.
    My vote goes with those few, brave and merry folks who say: "Buy the coin and not the plastic."

    Am staying personally Neutral at this ( but my mind swings to where I am) because I only have about 2 doz of both of the top TPGs. the rest, numerous hundreds, are all in ICCS and CCCS slips and holders as I am not willing to be "penalized" for getting foreign coins graded. IMO, coins are coins.
    However, I have noticed that many auction houses and dealers, especially from Europe, are buying raw and sending them to be placed in to Slabs to their favorite TPG......I was told by one German dealer-auctioneer (who also buys coins outside the auctions) that he usually takes about 100 to 150 coins to Munich to be slabbed. I asked him some time ago why he uses this TPG and not the other. He indicated that that he likes the better bottom line on the invoice. His profits usually soar when US coins are sold slabbed compared to raw .
    But he also said that the old style European collector still wants raw coins and not a plastic barrier between his eyes and the coin

    I will add though, as far as scratch resistance and coin viewing, PCGS has the best holder IMO. I have one coin going to NGC now for a reholder into a "scratch resistant holder"(extra $5), I'll see how those are.

    It comes down to this...your not worried about filling a slot in the registry, you have the same coin with the same date and mint mark, the same grade, one is in a PCGS holder the other is in a NGC holder. You compare both visually and select the one that appeals to your liking.
