Very cool die clash

Picked up a third box of pennies today.Found a coulpe minor errors then finally something super cool. First strong die clash on a copper.A soak in disstilled water.I should be able to get the little bit of crud off.Thought I would share.

    Interesting. I don’t see a clash either. I think it would be deemed damaged by our host.

    Well if so very cool damage find.I would put that in an error category myself.Im going to read up after some dinner.

    Don't bother to read up on it.....just go out in the garage and put two pennies together in the vise and tighten.

    Here's one I just went to the garage to make.....ERROR......I used a hammer with two coins.

    Interesting experiment. Come to think of it, I've never seen a clashed Lincoln cent. How common are they?

    They probably exist for a lot of different years if not all. There were a few of these in a bank wrapped original roll.

    Plating blister. Subsurface corrosion by zinc rot.

    It's a die break/chip and it is fairly common on Lincolns. Sometimes referred to as a BIE die break.

    Fairly common on Lincolns, yes.
    Common on Lincolns from the 1980's to the present-- not really.
    Although it would be tough to get a premium for it, you could if you really wanted to.
    I had a 1998 gem unc. with a nice BIE.
    I think I got a $20 bill for it.

    Back in the sixties the BIE coins were very popular. Not so much now.

    Yeah it is the first one I've ever found.I had O doubts on that one.I do appreciate anyone letting me know when I'm wrong. All that trout fishing I was doing as a kid I could have been making die smash pennies.Too funny never knew about that one. Thanks Rocco for correcting me,and Bob for making me laugh!

    I crack me up!I I had just posted that I had 0 doubts on the die break.Yesterday I posted that 61 as a die clash like I had 0 doubt. I'm a mess!

    I pretty confident I have zinc rott and verdigris pegged.I can't tell you how many rpms and double dies I found in the past that were indeed not!

    So us it zinc rot/bubble or die chip? The fact that it is higher than the surrounding letters makes me wonder if it is rot.

    Wow! That’s an interesting find... it’s very rare to find such a variety... looks more like an error than a die-clash
