Hi guy's. Just a minute ago, here in my neighborhood Starbucks. It sounded as If somebody behind the counter (a worker) had dropped a Silver coin. Just the slight sound of silver made me turn my head to look. Has this ever happened to you guy's? When just the vague sound of that precious metal makes you react? Oh well, maybe it's just me? LOL

No, but one thing I have seen with collectors. When I purposely drop a coin in front of them as a joke (to prove a point) several of them close their knees. It is something folks like watchmakers, jewelers, graders automatically do when at their desk.
If you didn't turn around and ask to search the change, you're not a coin geek.
Coin geekiness comes in degrees....it starts with searching change... then searching other people's change... then roll searching... and on and on.. eventually, everything about coins commands your attention... TV shows, movies, slabs, labels and on and on.... Until your reach the ultimate Coin Geekdom...

A week or so ago, I got handed my change, and by the sound I just KNEW there was silver in it. Yep...1943-S quarter.

After shooting in pistol league one night we retired to the local watering hole for some refreshments. Someone at the other end of the bar tossed a half dollar on the bar as a tip. The distinct sound told me it was a 40% clad half. I immediately called out that I would bet anyone at the bar that I could guess the date on the half dollar within 2 years. After a short discussion all of my friends declined my very generous offer but wanted to play the game anyway. I assumed no one had broken a mint set so my “guess” was 1967 covering the clad years. It’s really a shame when you can’t find a fish to cash in your numismatic knowledge.

Yes it has. if you have the trained ear you can hear s silver coin in the register as they move them around picking up change. Once, I heard the tell tale sound and asked specifically for the silver dime in my change. The teller accepted my request and I ended up with a 1964 silver dime. She didn't know any difference.

Also, I have been known to swap or pocket a penny from the "Take one" cup at the convenience store cashier.

I have the "knees-closed" after dropping a coin move down to a ninja-like science.
