Nevada, Iowa show report

I arrived to the show about 5 minutes before it opened at 9:00 on Saturday. At the door I talked to @CyStater who mentioned he had an opium Columbian half so I thought I was going to get something before the show even opened but it was not for sale. I also met and talked to @BAJJERFAN a little at the front door before going in as well. We talked about requests for show reports and I told I would do one if I had a good show.
When entering I usually do a quicker walk through and check out all the tables for any must have items. I made my way around and with three tables to go I couldn't find much I was even remotely interested in, luckily the second to last table was a really good table for me. Looking through his cheaper slabs I came across an NGC AU details Peace dollar at $16, I wanted some low grade dollars so with the holder I felt it was a good deal. The dealer also had two of those colorized silver eagles in their boxes so I asked about those out of curiosity. He told me $17 which at $1.10 over spot I couldn't turn down. I told him I would take those two and he said he had more, 10 in total so I bought the other 8 as well. I figured they are kind of cool pieces of silver especially at that price. He also had a really nicely toned 1821 bust half in NGC AU53, I figured it was out of my price range but he only quoted me $25 over Greysheet for AU50 and was cheaper than the listings on Ebay so I bought. I really liked the coin. He also had one of the nicest Morgans I have seen, it just popped out of the case to me. It was a common date 1881-S but it was slabbed MS65*PL. It is sweet coin and was priced under recent sales for the grade combo. I ended up buying that at his ask price along with a Binion Peace dollar, that piece isn't for my collection but it seemed like it would be an easy flip.
I then took another more detailed lap around the bourse, I inquired about 5-6 other coins but the prices just seemed too high for me. I got back to the dealer where I made my earlier haul and ended up buying two more Peace dollars in MS63, not blast white but not toned, just a little different than normal and they were at good prices too. He had a really nice Morgan with some outside toning along the rim which I strongly considered the first time around but ended up deciding to see what else was out there. This time around I bought it. I ended up striking up a good conversation with the dealer and it was the first time he has done that show, he had really great material and it was good to see a dealer that wasn't local since a lot of the material there I had seen before. It was a good thing he made the haul from Kansas cause without him my show would have been a bust, I must not have been the only fan there of his as he had quite a few holes in his showcase by my second time around!
The show had a pretty steady stream of traffic, I even heard someone comment on how he couldn't believe how people just kept coming in. I thought there was a really good crowd which may be due to the fact we were going to get some bad weather Saturday night so Sunday may not be as busy. There were some empty tables but most had tags on them for dealers who couldn't make it due to weather. Despite the amount of people I didn't see a whole lot of cash exchanging hands, I wasn't exactly watching closely though so others could dispute this. With the exception of everything I bought listed above I only picked up two cull dollars. I sold a little gold to help fund the above purchases and got melt for them, but they weren't exactly ideal pieces, a 1/4oz Philharmonic and 1/10 Battle of the Coral Sea. I was out of there around 11:30 and on my way to Culvers before I made the drive home.

Photos, I know they aren't very good.

I suspect you are the only collector in history to acquire an AU53 Bust Half and a colorized Silver Eagle in the same transaction. Good for you!

Nice report and some good pickups there. I really like the bust half and that '85 O Morgan. I had thought about making the trip on Sunday, but the high winds kept me home.

Thanks for the report, and nice pickups. I am pretty sure I know who you got that stuff from. He is a pretty fair person when it comes to making deals on coins. He is local to me and he sets up at a few shows that I set up at, including this one. He was asking me before the doors opened how good this show was, and I told him that it is usually a pretty good show to come to for both buying and selling. Before he left the show today he said that he was pretty happy with how things went.

Hope you all made it back home safe. From 11:30 Sat night to 11 Sunday morning over 100 cars in the ditch between Ames and Des Moines which is about 30 miles.

I noticed all the cars and trucks off the road, but it wasn't too bad when I left at 2:30. I-35 North of Ames was still closed and I-80 west of Des Moines was getting close to opening back up. I did however miss an accident that involved about a dozen cars and a semi by a matter of about an hour or so about 5 miles north of Ankeny. All of the vehicles had been moved off to the side of the road by the time I came through. All in all the drive home wasn't too bad the weather only added about 20-30 minutes to my drive.

You're lucky you saw that half before I did. That's a keeper. Due to the weather we had 12 tables cancel and 2 no shows. It was a tougher show because of that but we made due. All in all we had 325 people over the two days (all but 12 were on Saturday). The blizzard just killed the show on Sunday. We even had two dealers that couldn't make it through the snow drifts so we had to make arrangements to secure their inventory to pick up later. It was crazy. We usually do between 500 to 550 over the two days and we were on pace to match that until the snow rolled in.

I hardly had a chance to walk around but saw some good stuff from Tom Reynolds (his early copper floors me), Christopher's, Kearney Coins and others. We had two new dealers that came up from Kansas and one from Ohio that couldn't say enough good things about the show.

I will bring that opium dollar with me to the Ft. Dodge show if you are planning to attend. But I ain't selling it! :)
