Hey guys and gals I need some recommendations on the best places to buy raw coins that would straight grade if I ever wanted to take out of my 7070 . I know eBay is a good place for raw coins, but I don’t really trust it. Any online dealers/websites? Thank you for any suggestions. I decided to take you all’s advice so I don’t have to do that many crack outs.

This isn't exactly an answer to what you posted, but your best protection is to understand the parameters that the TPGs look at when grading coins so that, no matter whom you are dealing with, you will be better protected. In other words, in this case, education really is great protection. Good luck!

Thousands of them. Including thousands of them on eBay. But, frankly, I would hesitate to buy anything raw on the internet unless you are VERY experienced. Reliable dealers will stand behind their sales. But a raw coin is a raw coin and things like "questionable color" are hard for anyone to predict. Look at some of the debates on this forum over whether straight-graded slabbed coins are actually artificially or naturally toned.

Anyone who buys raw from me can return the coin. But you'll have to understand if I don't exactly trust you if you come back to me 5 years later and told me this coin that you got from me - like I'll remember it - failed to grade.

If you want solid raw coins, buy them in person. If you want solid coins with fewer questions, buy them slabbed. But there are no guarantees. If you buy a nice toned Morgan in a slab and crack it out and then submit it 5 years from now, it could well come back "questionable color".

The only way to have the guarantee is to buy it in the slab, keep it in the slab, and hope the TPGS is still in business 20 years later when you need the guarantee.

All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.

Least expensive is an exchange with banks/credit unions. Anywhere else there will usually be a premium to pay.

Any specific “wants” for the 7070 now may help others to help you find a reliable source.

Depending on what you are buying this may be the way to go. You wouldn't be the first person to do it.

Let someone else pay for authentication and a guarantee that the coins are not cleaned, etc. If you ever want them slabbed again you will know what they should get for a grade.

A few dealers I would trust are Rick Snow (yes he sells more than IHCs), Eugene Bruder and Jack Beymer (Beymer is expensive), all have websites, there are many others.

What grade range are you shooting for? If MS I say by them slabbed...especially for the more expensive coins. Most uncertified better MS type coins are not slabbed for a reason. Once you learn to interpret photos buying circ coins from pictures can be successful. There will always be the exceptions though...just be sure you have a return privilege.

Buying raw is a risk.... especially for the inexperienced in grading, authentication and quality...I would recommend against such endeavors until you gain experience....Cheers, RickO

I just checked and bookmarked the Bruder site. Pretty good!

This is what I do. For coins that are valuable enough to get slabbed, I would guess that 99% already have been. The vast majority of the ones not in holders are raw for a reason.

If you are looking for lower priced material you may do fine with raw though.
