How much of a long thread should you read...

CoinstartledCoinstartled Posts: 10,135 ✭✭✭✭✭

Before posting?

Better to read say the first ten posts and the last ten posts or go through the whole thing Evelyn Woods style?

Ever tried to read them all and half an hour in, realized that it has been poofed?

    That is an otherworldly feeling.

It depends on how interesting it is. I tend to jump on the first post I come to that I disagree with. Often, others have already posted the same thing on the next page.

On several occasions I've written a long reply That will not post for the reason you give.

If it’s a long thread, try opening the next page in a new window before posting to find out if the thread has been poofed.

In general, I’d say read as much as you can before posting, especially any further posts by the original poster.

I try to read all of a thread before commenting in order to avoid repeating previous comments.

Yeah... that is a always a pitfall. You post a profound response that three others have already noted.

You shouldn't stop reading until you are better informed (smarter?) than when you started reading.

It depends on how intelligent you want your reply to be. :)

I stepped in a pile this week, not reading an entire thread first. Learned that lesson the hard way.

I usually read the first post and then make my post from there, unless it is a question. Then I check to see if it was already answered.

The personality component complicates so many threads that are or were started. An educational concept can be transformed into the ugliness of emotions as inflammatory opinions start being sprayed all over, much like a dog on a walk.

With so much crap going on all around, it is a bummer when it infects an interesting thread.

I did read all replies before responding. Hello everyone ;)

Depends whether the subject of the thread is about CAC. 😐

I only read the OP and the follow-up from avatar/icons of member I recognize.

I prefer to read the whole thread to see if any new information has been presented past the first post or two, some are informational some become drama filled. You can usually tell if a thread is being read all the way through or not when you stop seeing likes and agrees.

Really, who are the three that said they try to read the whole thread before me? I'm not seeing that at all. In fact, only two people posted before me and neither said that they read the whole thread.

You started this thread and included "You" in the title. I took this to mean "me". So aren't you asking each member what their individual answers are? Doesn't that mean you want to hear from me and others?

So the real question is.....Why be so obnoxious? And why lie about what was posted? Because it WOULD HAVE been funny if I just repeated what was already said? Yeah, ha, ha.

And thanks for being my 1000th post.

Read it all. The longer the thread it is, the more important it is. How effing genius do you think you are that on a 300 post thread your comment is going to be the first of its kind?

All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.

I generally read all of the comments unless it starts to feel endless. :D

And yes, I've been reading one to reply and find it poofed. :D

Depends on who wrote the post. There are a few that I pretty much ignore now.

If I am interested in the topic (I do not open those threads that do not interest me), I read all the posts prior to commenting... If I comment at all....Sometimes I have nothing new to add, so I just move on, however, if I am in agreement, or strongly disagree, I will usually comment... Cheers, RickO

I usually read the thread from top to bottom, making comments along the way as I find appropriate. This doesn't apply to threads seeking opinions about a coin. I don't usually go beyond the first post for those.

I miss the disagree button. Those were usually good markers for where a thread was headed to too.

I could read the alleged history of the omega saints again and again; it was quite long and did devolve into sidetrack conversations by silly posters. But it was a worthwhile read until it was proofed.

Most don't read into 2nd page causing redundant comments and at the end of the 4th everybody is on the throttle with each other. This takes me to my 3rd glass :p and LOL
