CEO for a day.

Let's try an interesting exercise. Let's assume you are the CEO of PCGS, the HeadHoncho for a single day. If you could institute one single, binding change to how PCGS grades/authenticates coins what would it be?? I know what my choice would be but I'll wait for a few replies or suggestions before I post that change.
Thanks in advance .

Finalizer or additional eyes to verify all Variety Attribution submissions

Place keets on a consulting contract
Convert grading to a strict technical standard and eliminate eye appeal as a factor best left to the market.
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
Quick sentence describing why a coin didn't cross, or was problem graded.
Not talking about a paragraph long dissertation. Just a sentence, or two, identifying the issue, and location. (Doesn't even require a sentence! A phrase or two).
I'd call a meeting and tell them we were ending the FIRST STRIKE LABEL...
Of course I'd have my

All newly/regraded coins go into an additional population report, so that eventually, we have a more accurate condition census again.
Runner-up idea: improved holder composition to prevent coins from turning/degrading in the holder, especially copper.
No more grading by naked eye for moderns.
Wouldn't change anything. PCGS is doing a nice job.
for me, all coins would be photographed and held by PCGS as NGC does and every coin would run through the surface scanner.
As much as I hate to say it, they should give NGC some competition for grading ancients. Many of us "old guard" don't want slabs but they do serve a purpose and NGC is currently running largely unchecked (ANACS makes up a tiny, tiny portion of the market).
Grade everything 2 grades stricter so they all end up gold cac.
That doesn't necessarily mean gold CAC, it could be green CAC too. @Luxor just posted a green bean that was upgraded 2 grades and then it got another green bean.
please, no CAC.
why not just put their own platinum beans on everything
All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.
Eliminate 'eye appeal'.... it is even more subjective than the grade opinion..... and develop AI to standardize grading. Cheers, RickO
Drop "MS" from the label.
Allow the CAC sticker to be applied at the time of the grading so that it is on the actual label, not on the plastic.
Make it easier to get pedigrees
I would kill off marketing grading and establish a uniform, static grading scale.
What did you do this time? What are you atoning for? This post isn't like you.
That's a great idea. PCGS could move to Far Hills, NJ and hire CAC to be the finalizer. The coin is assigned the maximum grade that renders it bean worthy. I love it!
I like PCGS a lot. I don't submit so wait times are never an issue. Grading criteria is more than sufficient and this forum is the best numismatic site on the net.
Anyone have Coinstartled’s email address? Smoeone needs to let him know his CU account has been hacked.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
If I was CEO, my only action would be to bam Coinstartled for too much sucking up. Thank me.
.
Make whatever staffing changes required to reduce the turnaround time to less than 7 days for all coins.

About Findley Ridge
My big thing has, and will always be technical grading.
Put a technical grade on the label and leave eye appeal for the buyers and sellers to fight over.
Cheers

An alternative to my first instinct would be to assign two grades to a coin: a stable technical grade and then a modern market grade, leaving the chips to fall where they fall. I would probably mandate that the registry be based on market grading largely because it would continue to drive revenues from resubmissions.
While agreeing with one or two and not to repeat, I would start offering to grade obverse and reverse and list the grades on the holder(not mandatory, just by request).

I wish split grades had never been dropped. It sure makes headaches for price guides. But an MS-60/65 is not as desirable as an MS-60/67. Since the value does not change much it does not matter and that's what we have today, "commercial (value) grading."
MS-61 covers both coins as you'll hardly ever see an MS-60 graded MS-60. The grade does not exist anymore.
In a decade, all the old dinosaur "technical" graders will be DEAD and things will go much smoother.
Barring something tragic and untimely, I should still be around twenty years from now.
Thank you for the kind words. Your fee structure will remain as it is.
When mistakes are made - label error, wrong variety attribution, etc. Reimburse the customer for the postage to re send it and no fees whatsoever to correct it - including shipping it back.

I'd break MS down to 4 grades, like you find on certain inserts on ancient coins.
Strike: 67
Surfaces: 63.5
Luster: 64
Overall Technical Grade: 64
Eye Appeal: +0.5
Final Grade: MS64+
100% eliminate the current market grading approach, the current system of grading eye appeal and assigning grades based on price is just wrong.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Any huge changes to the status quo grading (as some are suggesting) MUST be done at both top services or PCGS would loose market share to ATS.
Unless what PCGS does is perceived as better. In that case, they'd gain market share.
I would open up grading to all tokens

Move from Newport Beach, CA. to Pittsburgh, PA.
My Saint Set
I would do away with the much rumored and highly secret in-house RASP (Random Assured reSubmittal Program), which purposefully throws a head scratcher into almost every submission, guaranteeing members must keep cracking out occasional coins and trying again until the House gets it right.
Use a plastic for the slabs that instantly makes any "stickers" vanish without a trace.
Better to move to a no tax state. The top guys would get $$$$ more without getting an actual raise.
Maybe Florida?
I don't see that happening. After downing NGC for so long and promoting PCGS only, there would be MANY dealers with egg on their face. Many dealers will not consider NGC coins for most issues and some will not consider NGC coins for consignment.
Implement the Next Gen Holder that has an anti counterfeit encryption code that can be verified online.
Add grades 5, 7, 11, 18 and 48 to the mix.
Add coin mug shots (obverse and reverse) to the Cert Verification page of every single coin graded. Doesn’t have to be fancy!

Allow customers to have a line on the label to add whatever they want (I.e. date found, location, happy birthday, happy divorce).
