The match safe is made from a privately produced replica similar to a Columbian Expo. Half Dollar but the watch case looks more like it could have been made from a genuine coin. They are in an auction, selling today, and already not cheap.
Either way, they are neat items and I figured that a few folks here might appreciate seeing them. What do you think?

Very nice.
Great items! I love how Uncle Sam and the Eagle are holding the coins on the lighter.
It is very nice. I have a few things from the Columbian Fair.

There were so many souvenirs made for the Columbian Expo that this is a collecting area on it's own, but I particularly like to items made with coins or in imitations of coins.
Yes, I love the way that the coins were incorporated into the overall design on the match safe.
Some very nice items to add to and compliment a collection from this era.
I believe that item on the right is a match holder, not a lighter (well, in a way it is
)...Very nice, I would probably buy that if I saw one in the antique shops here... Cheers, RickO
Great looking items
I've said it before but the Columbian Expo era may be the coolest era in the history of our country. After I went to see the Thin Lizzy and Rush double bill in the late 70s the next stop if I had a time machine would be to visit the expo.
Did they cover the expo well there? I have the feeling that you can never get the full experience of an expo unless someone does a movie or something. I really liked how films like The Gangs of New York put you in the past.
A film would be great. There is a Hulu series coming out at some point about HH Holmes which should have quite a bit of Expo related scenes in it.
I got really interested in it by reading "The Devil in the White City" which is half about HH Holmes and half about the Expo and it's a fantastic read and really paints a great picture.
