What do you think of this gold lady?

scotty4449scotty4449 Posts: 718 ✭✭✭✭✭

I picked up this 67 at a 66 price. I am thinking of crossing it over to PCGS. I am fairly new to this, so I am not sure if it would be worth the effort. I plan on keeping it for now, but I might sell it if I find something I like better. What do all you pros out there think? Thanks!

Who's slab is it in now? That might help up help you. I don't think that is a 67 but gold is not my forte.

  • I agree I don’t think it will cross at a 67. If it’s an NGC coin I would say you have a 25% chance maybe but hey it’s doesn’t hurt to try. Just tell them you want to cross at the same grade or higher. If it doesn’t cross they will just send it back to you.

I'd be worried about the field behind Miss Liberty.
It was looks 'conserved' to me.

Is it raw or graded? If it's graded, who is it graded by. Based on the photo's provided, I don't think it'll cross to a 67 !!! :)

A nice piece of gold; way to go.

Sorry, it would have probably helped if I added that it was graded MS67 by IGC. What are your thoughts on IGC slabs, I see a lot of nice looking IGC coins that go for reasonable prices.

  • That right there is real purty! I'm not a pro, however, but I like gold!

That looks like a nice eye appealing coin with great color and luster. Since you're new at this like you said you probably can't tell the difference between a 65-67 $2.50 liberty (it's not easy for non-new people either) so since you plan on keeping it I'd personally just leave it as is and enjoy what looks to be a great coin.

Nice coin, but based on the photos, you'd need to get pretty lucky to cross it at-grade. Just enjoy it for what it is.

I am no professional in gold, but I see a lot of chatter on the obverse left field and cheek. Your coin is comparable to the MS62 or MS63 on PCGS CoinFacts. If you are a beginner in the coin hobby, I suggest you refrain from >$300 coins until you gain enough knowledge in both grading and pricing. Also, stick to the two biggest graders (PCGS and NGC) to avoid overgrading and losing money. I’d say to enjoy it as-is, because I believe it will not cross at that grade or near 67. Any gold specialists please inform me if I am wrong. Welcome and good luck.

If I had to guess the grade based on those images, I would guess approximately MS64. I also have a slight concern for what looks to be a mark/disturbance and haze to the left of the next to bottom star on the right.

Thanks for the replies! To the naked eye she looks nearly flawless, but when you get her close up under strong light, well, not so much.
