What is the ANA to do with all those empty tables?
In addition to empty tables, I didn't see any supply dealer.

Was Wizard Coin Supply going to do this show? I know it's a lot of work to transport/display/return supplies and books.

Ping pong tables would be cool. They had ping pong tournaments at the Amazon conference last year.

Yesterday there were 41 tables available today there are 39. It is still 6 weeks to go but it does not look good.

In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

I hope they move this show back to May someday and get it further away from long Beach and Baltimore. being the 3rd of 3 shows does not help it and being so close to Baltimore on the calendar and as the crow flies really hurts it this time. No onsite grading is a dagger in it.

The ANA caters to a larger audience whereas the PCGS is limited to PCGS members.
One of the biggest problems is that show promoters don't care about each other.
Trust me this is a fact! The bigger the show the less they care about smaller shows.They will step on a show without a second though!!

Sorry Pat, but for me here in Lancaster County its a five and half hour drive. PAN want to ANA to come to Pittsburgh and I hope both the spring and next years summer show are a sucess. Just to far to drive for me.

I've heard that at several shows in the past, they filled the show tables with late comer's at discounted prices. If true, now they are probably paying for screwing folks with this policy. Why sign up ahead of time. Walk in the day of the show and get a cheap table.

All those empty tables at the start imagine what it will be like by Saturday when working folk like me could actually attend. Half the other dealers will have already packed up and left on Friday. So many emotions! Well ...
- Many other hobby shows charge admission. I don't like it, but their attendance does not appear to suffer. Probably because they have other attractions besides dealer tables (ex: live music, kiddie rides, celebrity guests).
- If I paid for a dealer table and didn't recoup my investment by Friday, I'd stay longer, not go home early.

While not coin related, Quasi Humorous Story about show tables (spaces), In the Dallas area, there is an automotive swap meet, and last year, for example, they sold 5500 spaces, outside, parking lot, at the NASCAR track. It starts Wednesday through Sunday. Thursday - Saturday very busy. But some people leave Friday night due to distance, sold out, etc.
One year, my 13 yr old son was out there on Friday, due to a school holiday, just having a blast. I had told him about people leaving early, and he asked one guy set up near me, if he could buy his windshield stickers when he left on Friday. He actually bought about 30 of them from various people set up near us for $5 apiece, (some people just gave him their stickers on the way out).
The next morning, by 6:15 am, he was at the registration tent, which opened at 7 am, but there was a line of people waiting to buy spaces. The spaces that were left were at the Siberia section of the parking lot. The spaces my son had were central spaces. The rules were the spaces could not be resold for more than the original selling price ($40), and in 10 minutes, he had sold every space for $35 - $40 each, and made over $1000 on his "investment".

PTVETTER - A good idea, but the point of a table is to be available to anyone attending the show. Think of it as an attempt to bring people back into a person-based hobby that has become jaded of thoughtful, enjoyable conversation. Maybe the pickles would do it...?
Everyone on this and other message boards reads the occasional hobby book or article. How many have met any of the authors they read, or done more than exchange 'grunts' at a book signing? For myself - and maybe this is selfish - I'd like to know what interests real, human collectors. That would help me select topics for future publications. Others might have their own reasons.

I suspect the window of this has passed....Many authors (including me) are not frequent visitor to coin shows/conventions. It should be planned so that collectors can meet as many authors as possible, and it is convenient for writers to plan to attend.
Maybe ANA would do this for the summer show - IF there's enough interest.

Please don't take this the wrong way.
The show is mainly for dealers and there are limits on the table.
First there is a limit of how many are allowed at a table and normally $ for a 8 ft table.
Now there is a Banquet at the ANA in Pittsburgh where you can meet people not normally available t the public.
There are club tables at some shows and this ANA has them. They are for ANA club members.

@PTVETTER with all due respect, the ANA shows should be mainly for collectors.
A table should be provided for numismatic authors, researchers, large firm principals and the living legends that we are fortunate to still have with us.
It is a brilliant idea and it would add to the overall show experience.No sales.
Just a published schedule of who will be there and at what times.
I'm sure the people on either side of the table would benefit from the personal, face to face interaction.

The ANA could cordon off a space (or a room) and have an 'authors' lounge' for collectors to meet and chat with authors. Of course, the room would need to be fairly large to fit some of the egos in there.

Information, knowledge, education are the foundation for all the commercial activity. There is no suggestion of "special treatment for authors" - rather, it gives collectors (and dealers) an opportunity to talk with the people who research and create the knowledge base that supports all the money parts. The concept has no buying or selling of authors' products because that degrades the entire approach into crass commercial interests rather than open education and cooperation.
