New pick up! Mine to Mint, it’s mine!!!

Well the rain is pouring, the sky is dim, the dogs began barking as the packages came in. The post woman smiled then returned to the rain, after leaving me gifts for expanding my brain.
Wooooooo!!!

WOW ........ that is something to treasure for many decades to come! Congratulations
But is it Mint?
Congrat's.
Can't go wrong with ANY BOOK Roger has published.
I was supposed to go gold mining today but the rain made that impossible so I am looking to buy coins produced from the mint.
Cool signed book!
That looks like a good read. Coin nerd material for sure.
congrats on the nice book
Cool book!

He's drawings are awesome. Hope you see a few in the book.
Get that autograph PSA certified.
Not after he touched it.
Hope you enjoy the book. The CD is complete and searchable - it takes the place of an index.
PS: Anyone who has a copy and wants to quote material/images for a coin club presentation, feel free to do so. It's about education.
Cool

Your grandkids won't read cursive so block letters are called for on the page that's enscribed.

I didn’t realize Roger was publishing back in 1937.
Seriously is this a new release?
This was released in 2013. 560 pages plus CD-ROM; 9x7-in; B&W
Also, the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle book released in 2018 uses a similarly detailed approach to the series, except there is much more about DE in international trade, confiscation during WW-II, Treasury meltings, etc. (550 pages 8-1/2x11-in) Hundreds of new varieties including a new, factual arrangement of 1908 varieties. Color
Congratulations on acquiring a great book by a great author and researcher.... Roger's works are fantastic resources. Cheers, RickO
Sweet, congratulations !!!
Hey...that's the same guy that wrote the Peace Dollar Book!

Well, look at when he started working on it. 104 years to get the book just right? That's dedication.

Do you think the woman really wore dresses like this at work? Working as a machinist I still find the lack of safety in the early 20th Centry and before shocking

Yep. That was convention ladies' clothing.
The cover engraving was copied from a poorly exposed photograph. This was common technique for making life-like 'action' engravings. The plate engraver could correct defects of exposure, while copying authentic, natural composition onto his copper panel. Many well-known artists of the latter 19th century - people of the talent of Thomas Eakins - made engraving blocks for magazines.
I learned quit a bit reading the book.
Very cool 👌🏻
Here's an example using photos made by Francis Johnston at the Philadelphia Mint in 1888. The magazine engravings were made by W. H. Hyatt using Johnston's photos as guides.
Extract from Demorists's Family Magazine:
Below are two of the original photos taken by Johnston. Notice the numerous changes and cropping done by the plate engraver.
Men to the left in the die canceling photo are the Superintendent (Daniel Fox) and other officers who are there to witness the event. This was a staged photo - normally the Superintendent would not attend in person, but would send a representative.
Likely OSHA wasn't around yet.
No safety goggles either...

Education and learning is always fun. Nice book @Aspie_Rocco!
This gave engraver's the opportunity to make adjustments as they saw fit and were able. If the cover engraving is based on Johnston's photo, which is consistent with respect to the pose and equipment being used, the engraver took liberties in making the dress rather fancy, especially with the impractical sleeves, taking a few years off the press operator, and adding some idle lookers-on in the background.

The cover engraving was based on a much earlier, but similar photo. Things didn't change much. A working woman's clothes had to last a long time.
Congrats on the purchase of a great book. Wish mine had been signed. I have many of Roger's books and a few were signed. Never been dissatisfied with his numismatic explanations or descriptions.

I was wondering about that cd I guessI need to open it . Finger was broken thank you for reminding me.
Gluggo - You can read the CD just like the book, plus you can enlarge images and search for any word, phrase, and more depending on your PC's logic program capabilities.
(I usually put the CD in the bottom coffee cup holder on my PC, That way I can still put my coffee on the top one....)
Nice!
I'll bet you finished it already!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Rocco - have you finished it yet?
I've had my copy for a couple of years and read a chapter or two every once in a while. Thanks for reminding me that I still have work to do.

It's not really a book to read cover-to-cover. It's more a resource and compendium of information, although individual sections might be readable together.
