The word unique means there is only one. Thanks to a forum member, I was able to acquire a copy of the Sept 1, 1989 PCGS population report for my rattler MS Jefferson nickels. In reading that report, I discovered that 11 of my Jefferson nickels have a pop of only 1 in any grade. The Jefferson nickels pictured below are the only ones of that date and mintmark in a rattler holder. I realize that coins were graded and holdered through October of 1989 (and I would love to see a pop report for the Jeffersons from December 1989) but up til Sept 1, 1989, these 11 are unique.
I did find that some dates had 0 graded in that time period so a complete set of MS Jeffersons in the 1st generation rattler holder is impossible.
But I keep looking......

Love the old rattlers.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Nice group of coins in rattler holders.
I see the grades assigned are MS64 and MS65.
Given that these 11 coins were graded 30 or more years ago, do you think they are undergrad and if graded today would grade 1 or 2 points higher?
Probably much to do about the cost of grading coins back then and the fact only authorized dealers could accept raw coins for submission.
Many of these "common" coins were simply not a part of these groups as the value to cost ratio was not effective.

Your welcome
Very nice, congratulations !!!
The vast majority of the nickels graded then were 64's and 65's. I do think many would upgrade. I wish JA did Jeffersons. They only do the proof issues, not the MS issues. I think there would some gold beans.

No. I thank you for getting that copy of the pop report for me. Gives me a lot of insight as to the possible number of Jeffersons in rattlers that might still be out there.

This is really cool George. To know that you have a set that nobody else can ever put together again.
With unlimited money, we all know that a pretty good set can be put together. @GoBust showed us, that with tremendous patience and great attention to detail, an awesome set that will be remembered for generations can be put together.
But this set, this is unique and will never be duplicated. Huzzah!
Thanks Ray, and thank you for keeping an eye open for me.

way cool
Super neat getting all that old plastic back together, nice work! The 1964 or 1964-D is a pop 2......since there has to be a 7284047. Best of luck finding the Oct 1989 pop report...............but why wouldn't PCGS have it? Are those numbers viable with their CERT VERIFICATION system? https://www.pcgs.com/cert/07284047 shows a 1908 $20 gold piece. But a 6186952 shows a 1951-D MS65 and 6186953 shows a 1953-D MS64. You just might be able to create your own pop report.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
