2019...............................34 Years of AGEs

The American Gold Eagles have now been made for 34 years running. For the 1 ozers, that's already 10 years longer than the St. Gaudens series of Double Eagles.

Not nearly as long as the Liberty Head $20 Double Eagles (58 years).

I haven't compared the total mintages, but in comparison to the population during each era, it appears that the modern AGEs are scarcer per person.

The modern gold coins (including the spouse gold and gold commems) may be actual rarities in the greater scheme of things over time.

There have been more 1oz gold eagles minted than 1925 quarters. Just sayin.

Would make a very nice collection in an album though.

The gold buffs are the best looking modern gold imo. I like the fractional AGEs for affordability though.

1986 and 1987 were only two coin years.

And then, there's the proofs and the "W" mint SPs.

And, I have to agree on the Buffs being the best looking modern gold - killer design on .999 gold, can't beat it.

All four sizes have been available each year since the beginning of the bullion coins in 1986.

Same with the proofs except for 1986 (1 oz. only) and 1987 (one oz. and half oz. only).

Thanks. I was referring to the bullion coins, not the collector series (proofs). Anyway, I like gold. The purer the better.

I bought a Gold American Eagle proof set (1.85 ozs) in 2007 for around $1500. Those proof sets went to well over $3000 in 2011 (I sold it for around $2000 in 2009).

I haven't checked on these recently, wonder what one would cost today?

I think they can be had for around 2200-2300

I bought this 1987 ounce and half ounce today for 1750
