And I am.....i would wager that that there is a 99% chance that this holder has been 'reconstructed' to become a Doiley

The label looks like there is another label underneath with a different bar code. I don't recall ever seeing the slab seams look like that before.

Is this the inner shell missing the outer shell? I've never owned a doily but I think I read they have two layers.

It does look as if there is another bar code. Hmmm. :|

I think it's just missing the outer shell and is also in terrible condition.

It isn't the condition of the exterior or the missing ring that concerns me and the insert may even be completly normal despite the second bar code showing at the bottom. The holder shows signs to me of having been opened and then reclosed.

The holder surely looks tampered with to me.The cuts both top center and bottom as well as the inner posts (especially the bottom 2) clearly look wrong. That stated, the coin looks about right so was it just the label that was changed out?

The fact that they claim CAC and it is obviously not stickered, is enough to make me pass...Cheers, RickO

There could be a number of scenarios where one would want to to fabricate a Doily or open one and then reclose it. The value in a doily rests in the label and whether or not the coin is under graded to some extent.

Would an unscrupulous person with a 1910 ms 61 St Gaudens and an old Doily label for a 62 try to get $1500 plus for by getting it into a ‘doily holder’ as opposed to getting melt for it?

What about a doily with a coin having obvious pvc damage? Would you dip it in acetone and get it back in the holder if you could?

What’s worth more, a doily holder, a doily holder with a green bean, or a doily with a gold bean?

Get yourself a 1943 ms 63 WLH doily that has problems for $140. Buy a nice ms 64 WLH in a non-descript holder for $50. Get it into the doily holder, get a gold CAC on it. Now what is it worth?

Lots of reasons to play games and it is not at all hard to do.

It’s only going to get worse until something is done to stop it.

Good coin and holder, Just bad pictures. He should have just reused the ones from the original seller from January 17, 2019.

Next you're going to say it's not a rare gold Morgan Dollar, either.

im pretty sure Ive owned this coin before. Either way both are good. Doily holders have 2 layers of plastic around the coin. When the first outer layer cracks off, this is what is left.

may the fonz be with you...always...

I think it's just missing its outermost shell.

It's a big pass for me.

I also think it is real, but abused and missing the outer shell.
