Submission strategy
Greetings to all. After 15 years away from any interest in coins, I’ve recently taken an interest again through an interesting twist. A friend of a friend had offered me some coins, but as many of you quickly told me once I posted the pics, they were all fakes and I passed on them. However, that brought me back to thinking about the bunch of gold coins I submitted to PCGS 15 years ago and had graded. Four of the gold coins graded MS64, but I had suspected that at least one would go 65. It didn’t, but I always wondered about cracking them out and resubmitting them. Fast forward to recently and I did some reading on the phenomenon of grade inflation. Better chance now to get some 65’s, I thought. I took them to a local coin dealer and he was fairly certain that all four had a good chance at grading 65 in today’s standards. He recommended cracking them out for the best chance. That debate aside, I’m left wondering if I’d be best off submitting them each at separate times, or at least two at a time. This being for the possible psychological strategy since they would all go through the same graders at the same time. Wondering if they are more or less likely to be “loose” with their grading if they see only one at a time and not multiples or all four. I’m betting you guys have thought about this more than I have. I know it “shouldn’t” matter at all, but we’re dealing with humans here and not robots at the grading table. What say you? Thanks!

Without knowing more, I’d submit them all on the same invoice. Coins which are part of a nice submission can sometimes help each other. That said, there is no one “right” answer to your question.

Maybe at one point you could submit coins that would carry a little bump by "association" as there is also "guilt by association"; I doubt that there is much of a carryover in these days of strictness.
Exactly, there’s no “right” answer here, but I’m trying to distill from the ether my best strategy. Who knows, I’m probably over strategizing this, but there’s a great deal of value gained in making 65 and I’m trying to settle my mind.
Can you post a pic or two as examples?
It seems to be better for value to get CAC stickers if they are under graded

Grading is subjective, period. So no strategy exists to beat that.
Best, SH
It really will not matter how you submit them. Let us know how the grades come back. Interesting experiment. CAC will be worthwhile if you plan to sell... Cheers, RickO
15 years ago grading was loose. You may be in for a rude awakening believing they're going to go 65!
If submitted, the coins will be returned exactly as you sent them. The "grades" may change but the objective condition will not.
It is all a matter of an "opinion". There is no way to predict just what will happen. If you want to spend the money to try make sure the upgrades, if any, would make the cost of the submission worthwhile.
Are you selling soon or working toward a competitive registry set? If not, there’s no real reason to pay the fees again.
Ive herd various theories on lining up submissions, not sure if there is really any truth to that, but I do not submit my nicer coins in with customers medicore / potentially net stuff for sure.
Submit first in the holder.
If the results not to your liking, resubmit.
Post pics here...I'm pretty good with saints.
There is a lot of talent here for advising you on other stuff.
Agree with BG above...Go for upgrade in holder 1st or risk downgrade.

Just send them in as regrade in the current holder. What generation holder are they? Can you post a picture or give us some more info on the coins?

Other what apears to be a light scratch on the'dreaded' right field of the coin in the third photo down-not sure which one it is-I woud resubmit them for possible 65 grades. They really appear to be really nice and attractive coins. I would happily purchase MS64 graded quarter eagles that looked like that anytime.
What you are asking about is sometime referred to as "setting up" a submission. It usually refers to ordering the coins so as to try to influence the grader/s. In your case if you truly believe one is a 65 I would get a few more that are graded 64, but don't look as nice as any of yours. Crack them out and list them first on the submission form, followed by your 3 that are 64 with the last being what you think is a 65. The thinking is that if a grader sees some nice 64s followed by an extra nice coin that he may give it a 65. That's my understanding of how it's expected to work. No idea if it does or not.
With significant downside, I believe your only option is a regrade. Those holders are not know to be under-graded at all. It's also hard to get the money jump on these gold coins. They could easily end up 63 or worse and lose more than half the value.
Not to sound like a broken record, but I had a Rattler 64 go AU at FUN!
CAC it first.
I've had good luck with CAC'ed coins getting a + on re-con.
